I think I told some of you that I was worried about having to say goodbye to too many people over the next 6 months...well, I'm quickly having to become an expert at it, as I leave my first country on my trip! I really loved living in Larchmont, NY, and spending time with the kids, even though they have put me off starting my own family for quite some time yet (!) and I can't believe I'm never again gonna hear Charlie say "Wanna play knights in the basement?!" or do the super secret handshake with Soph! Or watch Felix totally ignore me as I ask him to do something...that I will not miss so much. I also spent time with my aunt and cousin in the city, which rocked my socks because I got ... read more

so here it is, my first real entry into the "real life"... ps- it kinda sucks! i like my job, i'm in a really great profession, i get to be silly and make ppl laugh and help them feel better all @ the same time... the big problem is that i'm working with ppl that i have to constantly convince they want to get better- n that's not even really the issue, the bigger issue is that a vast majority of them don't feel the need to get better because they don't want to be alive- n quite frankly i don't blame them, i probably wouldnt' want to be either if i were in the same situations. i should probably mention here that i've been working in a sub acute long and short term rehab facility ... read more

Surprised myself by not crying at the airport...came close though. Surprised at how fluidly I moved around in the terminal's confines too. A little strange to blend in. Used to sticking out? Both relieving and unnerving at the same time. Simultaneously monogamous. Simul. Simul atque. The Latin comes and goes, usually in phrases and patterns. Kept trying to sift out Icelanders…tall, blonde islands. One sized me up en route to her gate. On the lookout for lonely blonde travelers; other islands. I keep oscillating between sturdy confidence and a feeling of obvious ineptitude. Like a smudge on a white shirt. Mixing patterns that have no business together. The bird from an Anthro 104 film that couldn’t manage to assemble mating dance moves in the right order. Signaling my shortcomings. N chose a disconcerting piece of writing ... read more

I've put a lot of thought into whether I wanted to keep up a blog while away...It was a trickier decision than I expected. There's the whole question of audiences (i.e. Would it be for mostly for myself? Friends? Family?) and how I relate to each. I've decided for the moment to keep it as a kind of personal log, see how it develops, and then possibly release it. Totally ironic. I love it. That said, let's set the stage in black and white: 20 yr. old college student: blonde hair, fondness for vintage belt buckles, inept in some areas, yet too-ept in others, ex-ept, wrestler of angels, lover of philosophers (philos 'o philosophers?) and fools. The right and left sides tug at each other. A 20 yr. old contradiction. A one, Mrs. Duck. Some travel ... read more

My bags are all packed! I'll be staying with a co-worker tonight who's also traveling with me and we'll catch a taxi to the airport in the morning. It's supposed to snow so there could be a flight delay but it shouldn't be too bad. I've packed my digital camera too, so expect pictures. Though I've just realized that I forgot the cord that uploads them, so expect pictures when I get home! You'll have to wait. My flight departs on Friday, January 19th at 7:00am from Boston and arrives in Chicago at 8:48am. I depart from Chicago at 10:00am and head to Mexico City, arriving in Mexico at 2:17pm. From Mexico City I’ll board a plane to Tuxtla Gutierrez (the capital city of Chiapas) at 4:25pm aboard and arrive in Chiapas at 5:45pm. From there ... read more

Hey Guys the blog keeps on screwing up on me and publishes my drafts, here is Boston for a second go. Sorry it has been awhile since our last blog it has been hectic, so just letting you know that we are all alive and well. Gell Ian and I with our new recruit Sarah rode into Boston in the trusty steed, late as usual because we got lost, with one destination on our mind, the Mecca of Boston, the be all and end all, the Crane Poole and Schmit building. For those that aren't familiar with this important landmark it is the building used as an exterior for the David E Kelly TV show Boston Legal. When we had to ask at the tourist information which building was Crane Poole and Schmit we expected to ... read more

I'm somewhere in between where I started and where I will arrive. This blog is being created in hopes that I will document my travels and be able to review them in the future. It's in a public blog just in case my friends and family want to review them as well. I arrived in Amherst yesterday from Eureka, CA. It was a long day of flying! It's cold and lovely here. It's always nice to return to someplace familiar and it's almost always easier for me to relax here when I don't have homework. On Thursday, my plan is to visit Washington DC and then to get to New York City on Saturday in order to leave for Athens! I'm nervous about visiting Europe for the first time. But I'm mostly excited. I have no ... read more

Hey All, So there was a minor change in plans. Instead of heading out yesterday morning I will be flying out today to LA. As my Mom and Dad were driving me to the airport yesterday we found out that one of our really good family friends had been in a horrible car accident the night before and was unconscious in the hospital. Needless to say this totally freaked me out. So once we arrived at the airport I changed my ticket for a day later and got to go to the hospital to see our family friends. It was all very scary but he is doing so much better. He is a true fighter and it looks like everything is going to be ok. I feel like I made the right decision to stay and ... read more

Got up and headed for the computer to determine where I would be staying that night. Nova actually helped me search for Hostels. After about an hour of searching I found a Hostel in Harvard, Massachusetts. It was far enough away from Boston that I wasn’t afraid of having to deal with that chaos again. It felt good to know where I would be staying that night. I then set up my gps mapping program and headed to Tapley’s for breakfast. In getting back from breakfast I spoke with Nova for awhile and organized my stuff for the umpteenth time on this trip. It’s hard to stay organized especially for me as I am not organized to begin with. It was already getting close to noon before I was packed up and on the road again. ... read more
