really wanted to do the freedom trail and everyone was happy to do so, it turns out that the trail was highlighted a red brick path with takes you around all the importance buildings and places in the road for American independence. It was a path that would help us out a lot with navigating especially when out drinking!
The hostel included a complimentary breakfast which was quite good but I was not too happy with the size of the bowls. The trail as a whole was about 2.5 miles so it was going to be a very lengthy walk around Boston, the weather was absolutely perfect which made it so much better. Along the way we stopped off at the hard rock café where we learnt that it was state law that we had to show our passports when buying drinks in a bar which was annoying as no-one though to bring them.
Also along the way we walked past a really old restaurant called the Union Oyster House and while I was looking in the window the chef threw some ice at the window which made me a jump a mile; everyone else of course found this
absolutely hilarious! One of the main attractions on the tour was the USS Constitution which is the oldest ship still active in the US navy. At the time of our visit the boat was under renovations so was not currently in the water. Apparently back in the day that ship managed to outrun 3 British ships during the war for independence. When someone came to visit the boat and they were ex military they would be welcomed on board and saluted for their service which I though was a really nice touch.
The final stop on the tour was the bunker hill monument which was 294 steps to make it to the top and this nearly killed me especially on the way down. It was well worth climbing up to the top though as the views of Boston were amazing, it did get a little tight at the top and it was very difficult for people going up and down. On the way down from Bunker Hill we stopped off at Blackmoor restaurant which was really nice and the waitress did not care that we did not have our passports with us.
Grant when to get some money
out of the cash machine but it did not dispense the money but his balance was reduced by $120, thankfully this was something he was able to rectify later on. On walking back past the hard rock café we stopped to view a group of street performers and their set was actually really good.
In the evening we decided to head out for a pub crawl and our first big drinking session of the holiday. Needless to say as the night went on my memory started to fade and we all split up at the end of the night and has some excellent stories of our adventures. The one major thing I do remember is that there was an issue with the a bouncer and one of the customers and the bouncer hit the customer so hard you could have heard the noise in the next state.
Grant went to go for a piss up against the wall and a homeless man had a go at him stating, "how would you like it if I pissed up your front door!" Jack and Harv were hounded by another homeless man and to get rid of him Jack ended up
giving him $20 to go away. Alex and I had a relatively quiet journey home with nothing untoward happening, I passed out once I got back to the hostel.
