The day had finally come, after 2 years of planning the trip to America was finally underway. Everyone came round mine in the evening as the national express was not until 1am and it seemed pointless to get any sleep beforehand. We spent the evening playing card games and fifa where I smugly won a dollar off Jake which he then got back off Jack.
When it was time to go Harv drove us into the city, Alex and I had to sit in the back of the van and we nearly flew around the back of van a few times on that short journey. Harv had been given a going away cake and earned the nickname pie face (not something that ever stuck). Just before the bus was about to set off the first calamitous moment of the holiday happened, jack realised that he had left his travel card back at home which had all his money on for the trip. He let out an audible gasp which seemed to take all the air out of the bus and he went whiter than an albino!
Thankfully our friend Cooper had been round mine before he left and Grant
called him to see whether he would be able to get to Norwich and pick Jack up and then catch up with the National Express so he could get back on. Cooper must have gone at supersonic speed as he was able to catch up with the bus at Attleborough and Jack was able to get back on the bus at Thetford, I don't think the bus driver believed he would make it. Naturally Jack was rinsed for his mistake something that would continue throughout the holiday!
The National Express was quite comfortable but I was unable to get any sleep, Harv fell asleep cradling his cake! It was about a 5 hour journey and I was very relieved to get off the bus by the end of it, Harv soon deposited his cake into the nearest bin. After a quick breakfast and a look around the shops at the airport it was soon time to board the plane. It was a good flight as there was great choices on the TV and the food was excellent, we also had plenty of beer available as well. I also beat Grant at a game of chess although he was determined
that I give into a draw and we all took part in a quiz where thankfully I managed to beat Jake.
I was the last person to get through passport control as I had the slowest border control agent ever and had massive groups of people in front of me. After speaking to the help desk we were advised that there was a free subway and bus that would get us into the center of Boston which was great. The weather was fantastic which I was not expecting in mid October and had to break the sunglasses out which I had only brought as an aside at the last minute. It took us ages to find the hostel but there were plenty of friendly people willing to help us.
We could not check in until 4 so we left our luggage in storage and decided to go and explore Boston until then. I managed to drop my camera as I had failed to do the strap up correctly, thankfully I did not do any damage to it. Also when taking my first picture I forgot to take the lens cap off so was confused as to why I wasn't getting an image! After a leisurely stroll we headed back to the hostel where we had a slight issue with the money that we had to pay.
After a little rest and a shower we went out to find a pub which took a very long time and had to get some advice from a few locals who directed us to JJ Foley's. The bar was really good but we could not fully appreciate it as we all really tired by this point, indeed Grant had to go back to the hostel early. Jack was the only one who seemed rejuvenated and wanted to stay out but he was in the minority and after a couple of beers we went back to the hostel.
