USA - Bar Harbour, Maine
Prior to leaving the ship - we had to go through Immigration. Officers come to the ship to go through the procedure to enter the USA. We had already entered the USA on the beginning of our trip when we landed in Los Angeles on our way to New York and had had our photos and fingerprints done. So we didn't have to go through all that again.
Today we went off the ship by tender to Bar Harbour - what a great little town it is very quaint as they all seem to be over this part of the world.
We did a bus tour to Acadia National Park and up the to the top of one of the mountains where we had the most fantastic view of many the beautiful lakes, sea, islands and parks. The island had changed dramatically after a fire razed through it many years ago when hundreds of homes, hotels and other buildings so now most buildings are new although there were a few which had survived this massive fire. It appears most places we've been to so far on this trip we hear a
lot about the fires and how it changed lives and towns etc.
The park itself is amazing - it's a National Park which was set up by some very famous people who had it set up for hikers, carriages, walkers and runners separate from where the cars and buses would wend their way up the mountain in such a way that it maximised the vistas as much as possible plus had areas where people could take photos. Some of these famous people include the Roosevelts and Rockefellers, Dick Wolf and many others who weren't familiar to me - all have contributed to the National Park in one form or another with others bequeathing their homes to it.
We spent about 4 hours on this tour and had a really good day for it - blue skies and sunshine although a little cool but the views were truly amazing - and with it being Autumn here the leaves on the trees and shrubs were slowly turning red and yellow which looked awesome amongst the deciduous trees - quite a sight. Out cruise is called the 10 days of colour - think we came a few days early as this
is the first lot we've really seen and they're only just starting to change colour.
After lunch in a typical town pub - with beer that wasn't so good - the men tell me we wandered around the town to check out what they had available and John was after a pair of bathers which he eventually found before we headed back to the ship.
Now back at the ship and the others have been in for a swim and Ken is doing some invoicing and we're both waiting to go out to sea so we can go on the internet - doesn't seem to work while in Port.
Tonight we're dining at the Pinnacle restaurant - just 6 of us - Ken, Noveen, Kay and Don Whibley and us - should be a good night.
Tomorrow we're off to Boston for the day - no tours planned so we'll just have a look around on our own and see what tickles our fancy.
Boston
Started the day off with a 2 and half hours Hop On Hop Off bus tour after being shuttled in a trolley from the harbour. We think
the tour guides should be on stage - they were fantastic and had the most amazing sense of humour. One looked like Jim Carey without a beard...
We all loved Boston with its brownstone buildings which remain after centuries amongst the newer buildings. Boston is a place where we would love to spend more time looking around. Boston is the area where the American War of Independence commenced with several notable buildings still standing with the main one being the British Administration Building where the massacre occurred.
