Got up at 6:30am. Shanthi left for work at 6:45am. She had made idly for breakfast which we had at 8.GS made some fresh orange juice for us. 9 to 10 R and Viswam played Nathan56 with four other players from India/USA. Shanthi was back by 10:30 and we all went to Costco and --to pick up some groceries. Lunch at 12:45..kurma, rasam, keerai, Prawns and brinjal-drumstick fry. At around 2:45 left on a long drive to the Naval Academy. Met Kisshan and looked around a bit. On the way stopped at a mall and R had a proper Sub sandwich there. We had frozen yoghurt. Rashmi was back home shortly after us. After dinner R and Kisshan played TT. Then THIS IS IT movie in the home theater. We had watched the first 20 mins ... read more

Had no program for today. Watched couple of more episodes of 24. Did laundry. Lunch of bottle gourd kootu and kovakkai poriyal. Went early to the station, by 2.30pm and had to wait in the cold for more than an hour. Took the 3.53pm Amtrak train to Union Station, Washington (1hr.15mins). DB received us at the station and took metro to Shady Grove, which was another 1 hr. Then went home by car which was parked at the Shady Grove station (in the 6th floor!) Dinner of pasta and mango pie. Talked for a long time and slept at 12 midnight. Washington DC - 2012 trip Day 4 - today was spent in Maryland visiting relatives. We met a cousin that my mom found through her geneology research. She lives near Bowie. We also went to see my other cousin in Glen Burnie who I hadn't seen since she was in her teens. We also stopped in Annapolis to take a picture of the Capital and to have crab cakes at McGarvey's. Later in the evening we had dinner at Ping Pong (light tapas/dim sum)in ChinaTown with my Nephew. It was very quick and easy to get to; we took the blue line and went two stops down to China Town.... read more

Fifteen months ago I arrived back in the States from my first mission trip. I spent two weeks in the beautiful country of Ethiopia, and fell head over heels in love with the country, culture, and the people. I learned more about Jesus and the brokenness of all of humanity then I ever understood before. You see, it's easy to walk into a culture and see their poverty, but it's a whole different lesson when you recognize and define the poverty in your own life. I am so thankful for the lessons learned, the friends made, and the friends and family who supported me to go. I am forever changed. #growth I stepped off that plane fifteen months ago with a burning desire and passion to one day connect my home church, LifePoint Church, with a ... read more

Duncan’s Family Camp Ground in Lothian, Maryland, proved to be a convenient place to camp while we explored Annapolis. March is still “pre-season” and while Duncan’s is open year round, the campground staff was hustling to get things in shape! Enough said about the campground! We drove through some beautiful farm land, and were at the Anapolis Visitor’s center (free parking in the adjacent garage) in less than 30 minutes. We met up with Squire Harvey, a Bronx transplant of a certain age, who guided us through the interesting narrow streets, chatting smartly about the history and architecture of Annapolis. We ogled the Governor’s Mansion, legislative chambers (each with a Tiffany skylight) in the stately State House, viewed a painting of George Washington resigning his commission, and saw the room where it all happened. Wending our ... read more

I have been a bit lazy about keeping up my blog this year. Sorry about that. As planned we spent hurricane season on the east coast of the US this year. The highlight of the summer for both of us was the month we spent in Washington D.C. We motorsailed up the Potomac River from the Chesapeake Bay and checked into Gangplank Marina which is located about a 20 minute walking distance from the Smithsonian Institutes, the National Mall, the Capital and so on. We both loved D.C. We just hopped off the boat anytime we felt like it and went sightseeing. If it was too far to walk we took the train or bus. The highlight of the sightseeing for me was the National Gallery of Art and in particular the Chester Dale Collection of ... read more

As we didn’t make it to the Dorchester Visitor’s Center on Sunday we got there by noon yesterday. I was already armed with a list of places I’d found on-line of Underground Railroad sites, needless to say, a very condensed list. I’d been to the place in Africa where kidnapped people were put onto the slave ships so now was the day to come full circle, where they ran for their freedom. The Visitor’s Center is a great place to start; the docent’s will direct you to the closest sites, just blocks away. They also have a nice interpretive section downstairs. This is the place to start. The docent directed us to the court house where people were sold into slavery on the courthouse steps, just up the street from the docks. The original courthouse was ... read more

Yesterday morning I finished up the last of my work. I found that I’d gotten and closed 77 claims, now that is a decent storm. As it turns out 1 must wait for an estimate from the insured and another need the report to be tweaked but I got to those when I could. I finished up by about 9 a.m.; Dale was making a celebration breakfast already so it was good timing. We had some Iron Horse champagne that we’d been saving for a couple of years for this celebration so we popped that and had a champagne breakfast celebrating his stopping work, meeting some financial goals and my finishing up a big storm. After breakfast I was so tired and drained I went back to bed and slept soundly for an hour but woke ... read more

Now it is the push to get finished. I have 2 days of inspections left but several days of actual claims to write up. It is always hard at the end to take the time necessary to get everything done properly, I just want out of here. Funny because it is so exciting to start a storm but then so great to finish working. But like a supervisor said today, it is so great to go driving off for home with some money in the bank and a job behind you. So tonight Dale and I started looking more seriously at the end game here. We have a bunch of people we need to see but we also had ideas of things we wanted to do. We mapped it out and found that seeing a few ... read more
