Good girls staying on the blue line Wednesday
Oh, in yesterday’s blog I forgot to mention – For my state count New Hampshire was new. I now only need 9 more states. Today that number becomes 8 as we head into Maine. We eat breakfast at the hotel and then head out to go up the Maine coast. Today’s travel will only be in small towns and along the ocean or at least that is what we thought. Wow, the coast here is nothing like I’ve ever seen. It reminds me of Lake Tahoe. You are driving thru the woods and hills and the next thing you look at a house and what do you see behind the trees and houses – but ocean. This area does not have the coastal feel we are all used to. It is just crazy to be riding on small highways that are not more than 1 – 2 blocks from the ocean yet we feel like we are in the foothills of NC.
The coast (when you see it) is beautiful. It’s rocky with the houses built up on the rocks and lighthouses everywhere. Stephanie, you definitely need to plan a trip this way with the boys.

beautiful view susan took of the lighthouse One lighthouse we visited was on an active military base. You can go visit it BUT, you had to walk and stay on the BLUE line. Yes there is the blue line painted on the ground about 2 feet wide. We were good little girls and stayed on course. It turns out there were 2 different lighthouses and a fort. On the drive we stopped at a gas station to fill up, grab some snacks and take a break. I decided I should get the group a lotto ticket.
After a while, we head to Kennebunkport and to visit the Republican retreat for the Bushes. You see we are a diversified group since we went Democrat with the Kennedy compound the other day. You could see their complex easily from the road. Sally wanted to try to drive down into it, but we said NO, especially after seeing the security that was at the Kennedy complex. We drove back into town and we were going to get out and walk around a bit as there were some cute shops… but the traffic/crowds were too congested – I can only imagine what it is like when the Bushes are in

Claire and the cane the area.
Next we continued up the coast and since we were just doing an afternoon snack again, we decided to stop for ice crème and fudge. It was my turn to drive so I took the keys to head out to the van. (score card continued)… Stairs 2 – Claire 0. I lost my footing and slide down a few stairs. With each stair I hit, it pulled my knee back and it went into a full bend. This is my bad knee and the last time it was fully bent must have been 30 years ago. All I told the people that ran to help me was find a sister inside. They ran inside and said a red headed sister fell on the stairs. Out the gang came. Luckily I have 2 knee braces, 1 ankle brace and lots of meds. Susan even had some pain crème and I got a bag of ice from the ice crème parlor.
Our next stop was another light house and mom didn’t want to get out so I borrowed her cane. We walked up to the light house. Once we turned around we saw another light house up on

lobster dinner the hill right beside the road. We then hopped back into the car and drove up thru the neighborhood to get a closer view. After that we continued on up the coast to the Portland Head lighthouse. Mom joined on this walk around the lighthouse. The scene had the ambiance of the sea with the fog horn sounding in the background. We then drove thru Portland, to the coast just north of Portland. We stopped at a restaurant in Yarmouth and had our Lobster supper. We all got lobster except mom. It was great. After dinner we drove back to Portland to our hotel.
