The entrance to the mansion. The oak trees are over 300 years old.
We left Lafayette and headed toward New Orleans. On the way we stopped at the Oak Alley Plantation along the Mississippi River. It is a preserved mansion and other buildings from the early 1800's. This included slave quarters as well. The plantation grew sugar cane.

We then drove to New Orleans and our hotel. We are right downtown in the French quarter on Bourbon St. My friend, Howard Finkel, flew up from Sarasota FL. to join us. Lucky for him, he needed to leave anyway, to get away from Irma. Luckily, his house is OK.

We spent Tuesday walking around the French quarter following the AAA walking tour. Today we are going to take a tour of the garden district and one of the old cemeteries.
