We left Canterbury in the morning and arrived in Hastings too early to check in to our hotel. So we drove to Battle to see the Battle of Hastings site. This is where England lost its only war on its own soil, to the Normans. There is the ruins of another abbey here, plus the actual battle site and some other old buildings, also. We spent a few hours there and then went and checked in to our hotel. It used to be a group of Victorian houses. Now they are all attached to each other and make up a small hotel. It is right across the street from the ocean, so we had beautiful views. The next morning we got up and drove along the coast to Pevensey Castle. We stayed there for a while and then made the final trip back to London. We checked into our hotel by the airport and returned the car to the rental. Another trip has come to an end. We got up and took the bus to the airport. Long trip ahead. First to Iceland, then to Seattle and then back to Sacramento. Thanks to everyone for all of the
comments. We love them. Trip total is 1530 miles by car and about 500 miles by boat and 11,300 miles by plane.

Too bad you couldn't spend a day in Iceland. Safe travels. Loved all the stories and pictures.
