My first item for today was another Midwestern art museum, the Cincinnati Art Museum. Like the other Cs, Columbus (see ) and Cleveland (see ), it’s a midsize comprehensive museum. Just like the other two, most of the museum is a little bit of lots of things, leaving me wanting more. Art of Cincinnati The museum does have one incredible exhibit, called the Art of Cincinnati. Like most newly rich areas (see ) wealthy Cincinnati residents supported the arts to gain cultural cache. Unlike many cities in this area, they were doing so as early as the 1830s, when... read more

Tara accepted an opportunity from her employer to work in China for three months, and the kids and I are going with her! We are all very excited! We leave in early July—just two months away! So much to do! Aaaaahhhhh!!!!! We will be in Wuhan, a city of about 9 million on the Yangtze River, about 800 kilometers (500 miles) due west of Shanghai. It is the capital of Hubei Province which, along with neighbor Hunan and Sichuan provinces, is famous for its cuisine, among other things. Yeah! I will be taking a leave of absence from my job to be a househusband, experience China with the kids, and to home-school them with packets from their elementary school. We told Joey and Corina on Tuesday. They were very excited! Last night we went to the ... read more

I planned to attend the Indianapolis Travbuddy Meet-Up right from its inception. Months later, I had it penned on my travel calendar. Even though Indiana is not one of the destinations on my "Bucket List", it happened to be one of the 50 states of the United states I had not visited yet. I will need to do a recount of the states I have visited, since I added a few last year, and some this year. In the 3 years I have contributed to Travbuddy, one of the things I have enjoyed most is the ability to travel to meet other travelers like myself. Now even though the meet-ups normally have nothing to do with discussing travel, and more like drinking, eating and taking a bunch of photos, it brings the faces and names together. ... read more

Our next stop was with previous China friends who are now working stateside with an incredible project in Asia called Starfish. (check it out and buy up all their clearance sale stuff at: www.starfish-project.com ) It was neat to see first-hand what our friends are doing and even help them for a few hours along with their weekly volunteers. These are the same friends that housed the van we're using and hosted R overnight when he first arrived in country. Since he started driving from here, he has since driven an entire loop across the USA!! The kids have been looking forward to seeing these friends, in fact, our daughter has asked throughout the trip how many days until we see these friends, so we've been counting days since from about “30!” The kids had a ... read more

An adventure already! After crossing into Indiana the heavy wind gusts have caused us to take a 3 hour detour & delay. With the start time crunch & route uncertainty, due to winter weather advisories across the country, we were able to only get an oil change, yesterday. No time for the alignment, rotation & balancing. This brings us to Evansville's Best One Tire & the lovely Grand Traverse Pie Company, while we wait. The gentleman softly announces 'The Duuude, your meal with ready', as soothing and sultry as Marvin Gaye. Beyond the delicious soup and specialty sandwich, I must admit, the warm slices of pie and smooth coffee is quite a beyond worthy substitute for Louisville's Homemade Ice Cream & Pie Kitchen. Amid the cozy fireplace, we talk of adventure and Brian peruses the '1,000 ... read more

Brett and Megan came up for the weekend and the whole family made the trip to South Bend to enjoy the day at Notre Dame and see the football game. I had been to South Bend before for my cousin Kevin's wedding at the Notre Dame chapel, but other than the chapel and the grotto, I hadn't seen much of campus. I couldn't wait to see the excitement that a game day brought to campus! It was really cool walking all around, seeing touchdown Jesus, the marching band, the grotto and chapel. We got to see the players coming out of the chapel, where they pray before every game. Tons of people are waiting outside to cheer them on. It was freezing cold and raining during the game, but it was still cool! ... read more

08/02/2010: Drove to Moscow, Iowa, to HWH Corporation to have our motorhome jacks/stabilizers worked on. Ended up with two new front stabilizers and a new circuit board to the tune of about $600. Ouch. Spent the night in their hookup area and experienced the most awesome thunderstorm about 2:00 am. 08/03/2010 - 08/05/2010: Utica, Illinois: Just killing time until we go into Elkhart, Indiana, for our first Newmar rally. Weather has turned unbareably humid. Went to Starved Rock State Park to do some hiking and gave up after the first half hour. Drenched in sweat from just the short hike to the top of Starved Rock. Just stayed home the rest of our time here...weather too miserable to do anything outside. 08/06/2010 - 08/13/2010: Elkhart, Indiana: Newmar Fulltimer's Rally. Spent the week at Elkhart Campground with ... read more

Woke up this morning snuggled wetly against my husband and with a strange cat under my arm... Shiloh. We were in the basement guest accommodations of our friend B in Clarksville, Indiana. Mission: to hangar the motorcycle for the next year while we are in India and see B and S, play some games and drink some inappropriately named beverages. B is also the keeper of our paperwork while we are gone. The travels have begun. Friday went well - it was my last day at work after a year and a half of contracting for Robert Bosch Measuring Tools North America (representing Manpower, oh the economy). I received flowers, cake, a lovely card signed by dozens and many hugs and well wishes. To all of you, everywhere, sorry - this was the best job EVER. ... read more
