Rosie's Diner, MI
Here is the Diner's Drive-in's & Dive's Place in Rockford, MI. Number 12. Greetings from Amish Country! We arrived here on Sunday after stopping at another DDD's in Rockland, MI. Rosie's Diner was the place and let me tell you that it was nothing special. It was kind of dirty and the food was mediocre at best. We even ate something that Guy had on the show and it was still only mediocre. Guess sometimes we just can't agree with the Master. We are staying at Eby's Campground in Bristol, IN which is just outside of Elkhart. It is very wooded and secluded and when we arrived Sunday it was packed but they all left that evening and it has been quiet since. Yesterday we went to the RV/MH Hall of Fame in Elkhart and that was very anticlimactic. They do have a lot of old RV's, tents, and campers but after a while it gets a little boring. Sorry to be such a downer but on the bright side it was only $8 to get in so at least you don't feel ripped off. They are adding another building to it and so in the future I am sure that they will add more and it will be exciting and interesting. We then
Don @ RV Hall of Fame
This is Don's dream RV. A GMC motorhome. For some reason he has always liked these. Maybe someday....... were told to go to this Amish restaurant Das Dutchman Essenhaus for dinner. It is served family style, kind of how they do it at the basque restaurants. You pick your meat, chicken, chicken & ham, or chicken & roast beef everything else is included with the meal homemade noodles, green beans, mashed potatoes & gravy, and stuffing. You also get your choice of homemade pie. Did I mention that you get to choose from 30 different kinds! Needless to say we were glad that we hadn't eaten since lunch because this was a ton of food. Neither one of us could eat the pie. It came home in a doggy bag.
We got up today and went to Goshen, IN to have lunch at another DDD's place. This one was South Side Diner. It was ok but again, not great. We are starting to get a little disillusioned with Guy. We won't give up our mission though Chandler's, we will press on! After lunch we drove out into the country and over to Shipshewana, IN and their BIG Flea Market. The Flea Market is big, I mean really big. It would have been fun to walk around and
RV Hall of Fame
This is the view from inside the building. shop if it weren't 82 degrees and 110% freakin' humidity! After about 10 minutes our shirts were literally sticking to our bodies. I have NEVER experienced anything like this. Let me tell you this California girl is having a very hard time with this humidity. You all know that I can't stand to sweat so this is killing me! After about 30 minutes I just couldn't take it anymore and I told Don we could go. When we got to the truck he asked where I wanted to go next and I said, "take me home!" We went back to the RV, we took off our clothes, turned the air down to 74, and took about a 2 hour nap in the air conditioned RV. Now that's what I'm talking about!
The one thing that I am loving here is the Amish people. It is so amazing to see them on their farms working with their horse drawn farm equipment and then to see them riding in their buggies on the road. I have just been fascinated by them. I don't have many pictures of them because it says in the literature that they gave us when we checked
South Side Diner, Goshen, IN
This is # 13 on our DDD's quest. in that we needed to respect their privacy and so not to take pictures of them on their private property. It also said it is against their religious beliefs to be photographed. It has been really hard for me because not only do I want to share it with all of you, I also want to have it for myself to look back on. Guess I will have to rely on my trusty old memory (HA!). Off to the Cleveland, OH area tomorrow. We will be visiting the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the NFL Hall of Fame while we are there. I'll be contacting all of you who wanted something from those places this week so get your orders ready! Miss you! 😊K
