When we ordered our very first beers in Frankfurt along the Main River, we noticed how the beer glass was rather unique. It turned out that almost everywhere we went the beer and beer glasses were different. There seem to be few, if any, beers that are sold across the nation, like in the USA. The breweries seem to be peculiar to cities and areas. Big Cities, like Munich or Stuttgart will have several brands. It was really interesting to try so many different biers-----Tough Assignment! Dan, Marilyn and Jan-Your assignment is to remember where we were when each of these beer pictures were taken. The prize???? How about a trip to Australia?!?! New Years, Baby! I flew home the day before New Years Eve, and was super excited to have my friends over for a party in our basement. It felt just like back in high school, but this time we didn't have to sneak in the liquor ;) ... read more

This weekend was supposed to be an overnight in downtown Chicago to celebrate my sister-in-law Kim and my 60th birthdays. Unfortunately, Jan's younger sister, Dawn came down with abdominal pain which the doctor thinks could be her gall bladder. Here's hoping it's something very minor. So, instead of a weekend of partying with Jan, her 2 sisters and the guys, I'm leaving a day earlier than my planned Monday departure. This will allow me to beat a forcecast light snow here for Sunday night into Monday. The worst part of beeing a snowmobile junkie is having to drive long distances in the winter with all of the crummy weather that comes with it. Fortunately, now being retired I don't push on in bad weather since I really have no deadlines to meet. It sure makes the ... read more

I left Weyburn, Saskatchewan about 1:00 in the afternoon because I was able to watch the finale of the US Open in my room. Damn, another disappointing finish for Phil, but I will still pull for him. While cruising down Highway 39 toward the border, I kept feeling a vibration at 75 mph and I was sure I had a wheel out of balance, so I found a Cenex shop in Kenmare, ND that could check them in a half hour. It turned out that I had thrown all the weights off all 4 wheels except for one. It had to happen on the stutter bumps on that Taylor Highgway in Alaska and I hadn't noticed since I hadn't been able to cruise at 75 till I got to straighter highways. You never know when you'll ... read more

It's Memorial Day, May 25th and in addition to remembering those who served our country, particularly those who made the ultimate sacrifice for us, I'm preparing for my trip to Alaska. I'll be making the trip in my trusty 2002 Suburban, which has 119,000 miles on it and has served me well towing my snowmobile trailer on many trips. I'll be leaving Friday. My first destination is Jackson, Wyoming. From there, I'll head through Teton National Park, up through the Rockies to Glacier National Park in Montana. After entering Canada, I'm going to Banff National Park in British Columbia. Then on to the Alaska Highway to Alaska. I'm planning to mix in some camping along with motel stops. (I know,----Bob Camping!?!) I plan to make entries to this blog as I go along. I'll notify you ... read more

Yay! I am so excited! At this time tomorrow I will at the airport and eagerly awaiting our flight. Mom, Dad and I leave at 1:00a tomorrow night....well technically Thursday, but who's getting technical. So this is the first installment of my trip to the homeland "Part Deux". Feel free to tune in and read about my adventures abroad! It's been 3 years since our last trip to the PI and I am still just as excited as the last. But this time I get to stay for almost a whole month!! Like the nerd that I am, I actually mapped out our trip on a calendar and it is one hell of a busy trip...from here to here and then back and to there and back again...but I am very much looking forward to it. ... read more
