This weekend was supposed to be an overnight in downtown Chicago to celebrate my sister-in-law Kim and my 60th birthdays. Unfortunately, Jan's younger sister, Dawn came down with abdominal pain which the doctor thinks could be her gall bladder. Here's hoping it's something very minor. So, instead of a weekend of partying with Jan, her 2 sisters and the guys, I'm leaving a day earlier than my planned Monday departure. This will allow me to beat a forcecast light snow here for Sunday night into Monday. The worst part of beeing a snowmobile junkie is having to drive long distances in the winter with all of the crummy weather that comes with it. Fortunately, now being retired I don't push on in bad weather since I really have no deadlines to meet. It sure makes the travel less stressful.
This will be the first winter in 5 years I haven't been in the UP for the December 1st opening day of the snowmobile season. That's because they didn't start getting that great Lake Superior LES (lake effect snow) until Friday. They recieved about a foot of snow Friday and the forecast is for possible LES for the next week and even a possible system snow storm Wednesday. I'm hoping for one of those special trips I've had in the past where they get 2-3 feet of snow while I'm there and I'm one of only a few people up there. We'll see.
I worked over 40 years with the dream that some day I would have the chance to enjoy the freedom of retirement at a relatively early age. I was fortunate enough to achieve it in 2005. God Bless America!
Many of the states I've visited and three countries (Korea, Fiji and Mexico) I was fortunate enough to visit on business related trips (mostly for entertainment!).
I'm going to start these blogs with my trip of a lifetime, my road trip to Alaska and back.
