Well, my little trip out of New Zealand was great fun but very bad for the bank balance! Hopefully I'll be getting a job in Queenstown very soon. It was really nice to be travelling to new places but I actually found that I felt a bit homesick for NZ! I think that's just me missing the familiar things agian, I actually looked forward to coming back here so that I knew all the coins, and the price of things and where the shops were familiar... but anyway, here's what I got up to on my little trip:
Sydney
I had a great time in Sydney, even thought I was there for only about 30 hours. I stayed at a great hostel in the centre of the city and luckily for me they had a walking tour of the main area the day I was there! I also got chatting to this really great girl from Wales, called Jo, and we ended up getting on really well and she's coming to New Zealand for about 10 weeks as her sister lives in Queenstown, perfect (hopefully, if I manage to get a job there). Anyhoo, the walking tour was great, we
has a good guide, bit try hard but still funny. We saw Darling Harbour, China Town, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, The Botanical Gardens, and a few of the other main sights. It was awesome and also a bit sureal, especially when we were stood outside the opera house, it was cool to actually be stood there but hard to believe because it's such an iconic image. It looks amazing and it's stunning with the bridge in the back ground. Apparently the bridge is 134m tall, it looks so high, but that's the height of my last bungy! I couldn't actually believe it. In the botanics there are trees filled with hundreds and hundreds of bats, some giant spiders and signs saying please walk ON the grass - I quite like Australia!
My flight to Hawaii was in the evening the next day, and Jo and I were going to go check out the bridge properly but annoyingly it was totally chucking it down with rain. We went to one of the museums instead and among other things, there were tonnes of stuffed Australian animals which were pretty cool to see. Then I just has to head to the
airport for my 10 and a half hour flight back in time!
Hawaii
I met up with Scott again in Hawaii and we ended up staying in the hostel he'd been in for the whole of our week. The hostel was great for meeting people and everyone was super friendly and we went out with loads of people from the hostel most night, we even did karaoke a couple of nights! Scott really really wanted to get a scooter for a few days, I would have been more than happy just to have got the bus places but he really really wanted to get them so I couldn't really do much about it. I managed to survive though and only ended up on the wrong side of the road once, when there were no cars around, and Scott was there to point it out to me!
We did some bodyboarding (where we saw a sea turtle), some coral reef snorkling with loads of fish (where I got burnt cause the coral was so shallow...), some shopping (markets and stores) because stuff is seriously cheap over there, some looking for good views/sunsets and went to Pearl Harbour. I
of course got no hint of a tan, but at least no one asked me this time why I'm so white. It was a really good week but I'm pretty much bankrupt now! I'll get a job soon and it will all be fine, keep your fingers crossed!
I'm in Auckland now, been staying with Amie and the guys off my flight again. It's been really great to catch up but I'm flying down to Queenstown to make my fortune tomorrow. I can't wait to catch up with everyone down there, even though it's only been a couple of weeks! Wish me luck guys.
Miss everyone loads, as always!
Love you,
Charlotte xx
