Journey begins
We changed our flights as it was an option last minute to fly to Sydney rather than Melbourne. It gave is an hour extra sleep in time .. which is important when you are spending a whole day on a plane. When we got to Adelaide airport we saw all the Crows fans waiting to board and we both thought it would have been a fun flight if we did go to Melbs first.
Even though we had booked through a travel agent and having flown to the US and other overseas destinations where you check your bags in once, we found out that we had to get our bags off at Sydney and then catch the bus (and pay!!) to get to the international airport.
We had 5 hours so it wasn't a problem, except check in didnt open until 3 hours before. (Insert twiddling thumbs).
The line was HUGE when we could finally check in.. I think everyone was going to Hawaii.. it took and hour and a half to get through the line.. sigh..
Although it looked like Kym and I were seated together we actually had an aisle between us
.. being Jetstar and having to pay for entertainment (and food and drinks) we had downloaded a whole bunch of stuff to watch together.. well this didnt happen.. and of course the MHC was totally out ?
I had packed meats and olives ( I forgot the cheese..) so dinner was sorted.. We had chocolate and lollies (Allens Snakes.. you got to have snakes on a plane.. ?) so we were sorted for food and just got the one alcoholic beverage each.. just as a side note, I'm sure everyone is aware of the exorbitant prices airways charge, in the Jetstar magazine a delicious looking laksa and a beef noodle soup were portrayed served in elegant bowls with what looks like fresh spring onions topping it and not bad for $7.50AUS. In reality this was an overpriced cup of soup. The couple next to us preordered a meal which apparently tasted ok but the servings were so tiny it barely filled them up. The lady looked at our meat and olives platter and wished she had done the same. Will definately be doing this on the way home.
8.5 hours later we arrived in Hawaii. Expecting to both
get lei'd ? we were dissapointed this didn't happen ?...we took a shuttle to our hotel and arrived just before 7am.. check in was 3pm.. so leaving our luggage in the luggage room we took a walk to get breakfast. Kym's mum had given us a gift card for a brekky place so a short 25 minute walk and we were tucking into a hearty Hawaiian breakfast of home made hash browns with scambled eggs, bits of bacon, sausage and coconut syrup with a fried banana and pineapple .. savory and sweet .. interesting.. and i added tabasco sauce just to mix up the flavor a bit ?
I ordered an iced coffee which was literally coffee over ice, literally... and to be honest i think this will be how i drink my coffee in summer.. now to convince Kym to buy that awesome fridge we saw with the ice maker.. just for my iced coffee ?
Back at the hotel.. its been 24 hours awake so why not start drinking and swimming..I think it s a good plan. Everytime I ask for the bathroom key I ask if there is a room ready, its a struggle. 2pm we get a room and 2.10pm we are asleep. 2 hours later we are up to get ready and head to watch the Adelaide Crows Grand Final match next door with a bunch of Aussies. Tacky little dive bar, TV on the 8 ball table, cheap burgers and FREE cookies and we drown our sorrows of our loss drinking cheap beer and making new friends. Day 1 done!
