No Pipe Today!! Called off due to lack of well.. :( bummed but hey, we're in Hawaii, on the North Shore and certainly not unhappy. The boys got up keen for a surf.. Ren and I decided to head to the local festive market held once a year in the school grounds at Sunset Beach.. It was good, a little expensive but I got my token souvenir - a pottery turtle by a local potter, and a photo of a turtle underwater by a local photographer to go with him.. Otherwise we just got shaved ice for the kids and had a walk around.. I'm disappointed with my shopping efforts this trip although the cankle has probably got something to do with it.. We then crossed over the road to Pipe and had a look at ... read more

PIPELINE MASTERS Yay, we ALL finally got to go and see what the hype was all about! and man, it was insane.. Huge waves, loads of people and even more cameras! Big time lens envy let me tell you!! I looked like a freak show getting down to the water's edge with the big moon boot but hey, what can you do.. Probably the worse thing was the tide coming up whilst we were sitting on the beach - a big wooooosh of water and gritty sand, saved the camera but the boot didn't quite get out in time.. We didn't get to see Mick Fanning (that's the boys goal) today but saw Kelly Slater, Taj Burrows and Joel Parkinson (among others), we missed seeing the 17 year old WA surfer that was only just defeated ... read more

Space A, or space available, is open to all military, retirees, and dependents and involves hopping on a military flight to wherever they are going. I've done it many times in the past, but never had such trouble with flight changes! Advantage: free. Disadvantage: subject to any and all changes without notice. Back in the old days (ha!) we used to have to call the recorded info line periodically for schedules. Now it's all on the Facebook page! Very handy. After watching the boards from Andrews, Dover, BWI, and McGuire, we decided to buy a ticket. It felt a ... read more

While Judy continued to work...I continued to play! :-) I drove up the Kamehameha Hwy to Kane'ohe to Kualoa Ranch. This is where I spent most of the day. Walking around the ranch, seeing the little area where they held animals such as goats, turtle, and ostrich. There were a few chickens and roosters running around as well. This ranch is still a working ranch with cattle. It is about 4000 arces and founded in 1850. Other than a working cattle ranch Kualoa has expanded it's role to the home of many film shoots including Jurassic Park, Journey to the Earth, Pearl Harbor, and 50 First Dates. While here at the ranch I did three tours; the Jungle Expedition, Movie Sites, and a Horseback Tour. The Jungle Expedition took us around to different areas of the ... read more
