If you are a casual biker you will love Jekyll Island. If you like to stop often and explore and take photos you will love Jekyll Island. We have visited 3 years.

Located in Georgia's southeast coast across from the city of Brunswick, the island has been settled for hundreds of years and at one time was home to some

very wealthy Americans representing 1/6 of the world's wealth. Today it is more of a quiet, laid back destination for ordinary people, attracted by 11 km of gorgeous sandy beaches .... and of course great bicycling.

There are places to rent bicycles and many of the hotels also have them available.

One year I biked there in January so it was a bit unusual. For one thing, there are very limited places to get food. Dairy Queen at the entrance to the island was the only

fast food and then I found two other restaurants, one of which only served dinner. The temperature was in the mid-teens Celsius, so just perfect.

I have also biked in March and in February. The temperature was much more moderate and more places were open, but it was still not very busy and rather peaceful and tranquil around the entire island. February temperatures can range from mid-teens to mid 20's.

The trail runs along the beach, and through dense areas with Spanish Moss hanging down. The North side of the island is the more interesting ... and of course also has the beaches. The North end also has the benches, water and bathrooms, while south of the Days Inn there is only one park with facilities.

The southern part is the only one in which you must use the road for perhaps a total of 1 km, but I found this to be no problem and encountered no traffic.

Well worth a visit to bike and enjoy the beach.
