Race Summarization

The 2015 Air Race Classic was awesome!

Tamra and I started our way to the lovely town of Fredericksburg, Va., heading north and stopping for fuel and lunch at New Smyrna Beach, Fl., and than heading to Lumberton , No. Carolina for the night. Great welcomes from both airports with lots of interest in our air race numbers and where the air race was going to take us and how we were going to fly it!

Arriving at the start ( Stafford Regional Airport ) was exhilarating! All these planes, pilots, crews, volunteers, welcoming signs, incredible! Than, four days of seminars, introductions, final preparations, and off we go. Lining up for the start: nose to tail, nose to tail, 54 racing teams ---- up in the air and all headed to our first mandatory fly by and fuel stop. All racing against to beat their individual handicap. Four days of racing, 2500 nautical miles, dawn to dusk, with ten stops in front of us.



Looking out the cockpit, watching the world go by, Smith Lake in Virginia, with all the homes and doaks , complimenting the sparkling waters. Realizing no time to sight see, time to study the charts and review the instructions for our first fly by... And , remember we are "flat landers", there are mountains around us!!!
