Sarasota
Our Hotel Sorry I didn’t get the word out fast enough. You would have enjoyed our side trip to Sarasota. Don’t feel that bad, though. You weren’t the only ones who didn’t join us. Lulu was feeling subpar so decided it was best if she stayed back at the RV. She is SOOoo considerate! She’s rallied back around since our return today. Hallelujah!
Our oldest daughter, Lory, has come down to Sarasota, Florida for a week. She is here gaining more business training for her company, ARVOS LJUNGSTROM ( Air Preheater Co.). It is related to her job as a system analysts. It is a very detailed and complex course related to the deep internal working of computers. Far more that I can explain let alone understand. Duh!
We decided to spend some time visiting with her in Sarasota where she was staying and training. We couldn’t get into her hotel as it was booked full so we stayed at Marriott’s Springfield Suites near the Sarasota airport. Her hotel wasn’t too far away. She stayed in a EVEN Hotel....brand new! Designed for the health and exercise enthusiast. This was not necessarily her choice but she’s a Zumba champion. She had an
array of exercise equipment right in her room. Many, many other big rooms filled with all sorts of exercise equipment. Lulu would have loved it....even with her limitations. She could have floated in their big pool.
Our first evening we ate at an Amish restaurant called the Der Dutchman. It was a huge place with a luscious bakery and gift shop. The meal was a delicious, bountiful buffet. Many Amish folk enjoyed dining there also. They don’t drive a horse & buggy like back home. They ride battery operated, motorized bicycles. I give them credit. The traffic around here is horrendous. Several years ago, Cory, Chip and I stayed at the Sun N’ Fun RV Resort in this area. That was the park that had 152 things to do and we didn’t want to do any. Cory did want to use their workshop and they told him the next opening was in 2 years! We didn’t go back.
The next day, Sunday, we thought about going to the Ringling Bros. Museum but it is under renovation so it’s closed. Instead, we headed to the Red Barn Flea Market and trolled around its massive, astronomical conglomeration of “stuff”. Some
good; some crap. We found ourselves stopping at a couple Goodwill stores. I am hooked on taking photos of weird stuff for a Facebook group I am in called “Weird Secondhand Finds that just needs to be Shared”. Lory has our collector disease so she is always looking for a treasure. We passed that disease onto her. She collects cow items. These two photos are only a very small part of her cow collection. Look what we have done!
We weren’t too sure where to eat supper so picked the biggest ad in a tourist booklet. It took us to Captain Curt’s in Siesta Key. It was a good choice with tasty food. Lory got gator bites for her appetizer. Chewy! I had their clam chowder which they are famous for.....yum! Grouper was Cory’s choice. Another Yum!
Cory saw a trolley pass by us while eating. He checked it out and zippo.....we were onboard this merry trolley! Yahooo and Hip-Hip-Hooray! Oh, Lulu would have been squealing with excitement, too. We made a round trip of it which took us past our friend’s beach front condo, Mike & Kathie May. It was a fun ride and a great way
to see the area.
Life is not complete without stopping at a Walmart. Always some little tidbit to purchase there. My dream store.
Back to our hotels for a well needed rest. The couch in our room was as hard as a fallen tree. It is a trundle bed so pulls apart. I guess it’s good if you have back problems but just sitting on it is bad! Real bad! Our bed quickly made up for it. Another comfy, luxurious, float-on-a-cloud bed. Almost like our Princess Cruise-line bed at home. Loved it!
Lory started her training course on Monday. We had made plans to meet our friends, Mike & Kathie, for lunch. They suggested the Phillippi Creek Restaurant and Oyster Bar. A great place with good food. But....the best part was the company. We hadn’t seen Mike & Kathie for awhile so it was wonderful being with them again. They have always been so kind and generous towards us. They are great people. Always a lot to catch up on. The time passed too quickly. Thank you for a delightful time together, Kathie & Mike.
As we traveled back to our hotel, we found a small
Thrift Shop. Screeeeech. We stopped and found a couple small treasures.....one that I have always wanted but found pricier than what I wanted pay. At this shop....it was a steal. I know Lulu will love her new pet!
We met Lory after her classes. Again, trying to figure our next dining spot. Seems our thoughts always are towards eating. At a mall close by her hotel was a Shake Shack. Sandy Foreman said this was a highly frequented place in NYC. It wasn’t busy here so we were glad. They had very tasty hamburgers and milk shakes. Not a wide variety in their menu...remember it is called Shake Shack!
Now we had to bid goodbye to Lory and wish her well as she applied herself to her new learning experience. She flies back to Wellsville this coming Saturday. It was fun while we were together. She and her family with return this coming March to stay in our timeshare condo near us in Kissimmee.
Cory and I got up this morning and headed back to our RV home. It was neat seeing some of our familiar haunts on the trip. You all have been at most of them.
Some of them we will return to this time around. Oh, what fun we are going to have!
What now.....we jumped on our trusty golf cart and headed off to the park’s pond. We had been told a 10’ alligator has taken up residency in it. Ooooooo. Rats! We couldn’t see any ‘gator.....must be hiding on us! Because it is so big, it will be removed to other quarters soon. Hope we get a glimpse of him before he says “bye-bye bite-me” to his watery, Tropical Palms home.
Watching Toy Story 4 on DVD right now. I love these movies! This one looks to be super good. As long as it doesn’t make me cry, it will perfect. I’ll fill you in later, folks.
Gotta go and finish watching this delightful movie. Catch you all soon. Toot-a-Loo!
