So after our most dismal arrival … consisting of drunken delirious fathers and crying mothers and questions like “Am I driving you to school?? Come on, come on … it’s morning right?” Directed towards me. At night. (No kidding, when I walked through the door the first thing he asked me was why I was up so early … not how was your drive or even did you just get here?). So it seems as if he not only missed a good 12 hrs. between day and night, but approx. 10 yrs. on top of that. I spent most of the day yesterday licking my wounds and attempting to conquer technology -- failing miserably, of course. Here are some of the real gems & highlights of our Florida trips. The beaches of Sanibel and Captiva deserve their great reputation. You estimate how much time you want to stay at each and pay to park accordingly. Most have bath houses for changing. All have restrooms. The shelling is wonderful. We did the Sanibel walk - slightly stooped over to spot shells. Beach shoes and a container for collected shells will add to your comfort. Great spot for sunsets. The Bailey Mathews Shell Museum and the Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge, both at Sanibel are interesting for all ages. We saw a very large female crocodile at Ding Darling. Sanibel is very bicycle friendly. We are only reluctant to highly recommend Sanibel and Captiva because we want to guard it from too many visitors. ... read more

My wife reminded me of a trip we took 2 years ago. She had just gotten laid off from her job of 8 years, so I thought I would cheer her up by taking her to south Florida for some rest and relaxation. We stayed at this Sanibel Island rental properties called Sanibel Siesta. Luxury condos that you rent and it’s on the beach. Really nice Sanibel Island accommodations with some nice vegan restaurants in the area. I would say it was one of our better Sanibel Island vacations. ... read more
