I am combining 2 days in this blog to try and catch up. I can't remember all the things I did so I'll try to hit the highlights.
Yesterday I discovered that 2 of my friends from home are here in this campground, one is acturally next door. I didn't know they were coming, they just surprised me. Yesterday, Joan had trouble with her camper, a Roadtreck, and she had to get it fixed immediatley, her gas line was broken. So both Joan and Joanne went to Daytona to a chevy dealer and they were able to fix it for them in 2 hours, very fortunate.
I took Oscar for a nice hike then decided I better get to the beach before I had to leave and never got there. It is just a 6 mile trip, across the high bridge over the Intercoastal Waterway and then I headed north in search of parking. The town of Ormond Beach provides plenty of parking for beach goers so I had no trouble and was on the beach in no time. During the day the temperature had dropped and there was a wind out of the north,
so instead of sun bathing, I was wrapped in my heavy shirt I keep in the car. It was very pleasant sitting there watching the world go by and the sounds of the water are so relaxing. This beach is like Daytona where they allow you to drive on the beach but here was no traffic today, just the sea gulls. I watched a women feed the birds, don't know who enjoyed it more, her or the sea gulls. Picture
When it was time to go I packed up and went to the local Publix grocery to get a few supplies and headed home.
We had a campfire at Joan's site next to mine and we enjoyed cupcakes for dessert, no not marshmallows.
Thursday was overcast with a promise of sun then thunder showers. I wanted to kayak again and so did Joanne so we headed out to the camp store where we rented a double kayak and started up river to explore the Tomoka River. It was quite a paddle to get to the river but we made it and went upstream for some distance. The wind was against us
but not strong, we wanted the wind with us on the way home when you're tired. We say lots of birds including, cormorants, anhingas, king fisher, black vultures, orprey and 2 bald eagles. It was a great adventure that lasted almost 3 hours. I was thrilled to finally be out on the river.
We came home and I started breaking camp. I have to leave tomorrow and there is a forcast for showers tonight so I wanted to get some things put away while they are dry.
I also want to be out of here by 11 am. I am checking into a campground about 10 miles from here, there was no room here, so I can leave the camper and Oscar and go back into Ormond Beach for a Native American Festival that starts tomorrow at noon. It runs the weekend but one day will be enough for me. I was thrilled to find a camping spot as it is the weekend and spring break too.
Joan, Joanne and I had dinner cooked over the open fire tonight. That's real camping.
So it will be early to
bed tonight and up and at em in the morning.
