Somehow you people up north have sent us your cold weather. You can have it back! We have wind today and temps in the high 30's this morning. Nobody is too eager to stick their noses out of their doors. About 11 I took Oscar for a walk seeking out all the sun I could find. My site here is almost all shade and it would have been wonderful if it was hot. So now I am a sun seeker.
After lunch I took a little ride to see what the Caracara were up to. I had seen a huge hawk the day before and 3 deer so I was looking for most anything. I spotted a red shoulder hawk sunning, snapped a few pictures, then went on, didn't find the ones I was looking for. Then, there in the field, over a kill, one was having lunch. I stood and watched him for a while then he flew off and dove right over me. Oh, did I snap away. He went to a tree near the proposed nesting site and there was his mate. They greeted each other with warmth and just stood there for a while
til they started pecking at each other very tenderly. With those beaks, they have to be careful. I snapped away. I must have been there over an hour just watching and enjoying their presence, they didn't seem to mind. I love it when nature shares it's wonders with me, I feel very priviliged.
Went back home, took Oscar for another walk, then decided to do a load of wash. The ranger was at my door, and handed me a flier about how dry and windy it was and be extra careful with fires. And there is a freeze warning for tonight, we have to disconnect our hoses from the supply spicket and let the spicket drip tonight. Since I'm leaving tomorrow I disconnected both ends, drained the hose and put it away. I have water on board. I put my bike in it's carry bag and just secured the site.
Then I allowed myself to transfer the pictures to the computer so I could see what I got today. OH, I'm thrilled with my new camera! I'll post several as they are really good and the Caracara is beautiful in flight.
There are several campers here that are truly camping, tents and all. They are going to be so cold tonight. There is a single fellow next to me who is standing over a stove on his picnic table cooking his dinner. He makes me cold looking at him. There was a family here last night right accross from me with 3 little boys. They drove up in a small car and proceeded to unpack all their gear. How they got it all in is a wonder. They had 5 sleeping bags, a tent, chairs for everyone, camp stove and several coolers. They were having a fire when I went to bed last night and this morning they were all huddled in their chairs with blankets over them eating their breakfast that Mom had cooked for them. The next thing I know they are all packed up and leaving. Seems like an awful lot of trouble for one night.
A group that is here all have vintage Vixons. It is a motorhome made around 1986 and is very strange looking. There were only 600 made and the 5 that are here all have good machanics driving them. They
are a close group and get together once a month and seem to have lots of fun. Picture.
Last night I tried my luck at shooting stars. Taking pictures of them. Got the tripod out, the red light, lots of clothes and camera and walked up the road to find a wide open spot. The area with the most stars had Orion right in the middle so I aimed there and took different lengths of exposures. The one I liked best was a 70 second exposure, shows lots of stars, even blots out Orion. Not too bad for my first try. May retry tonight or not.
It has been a fun park to visit but I'm ready to leave tomorrow, on to new adventures.
