In Between Days It was still raining when we woke up this morning. Is this going to be the outcome of all our vacations?
Our hotel offers a pretty good free breakfast buffet, we slept in
and made it down there 15 minutes before it ended. Meat, fruit,
potatoes, juice and coffee. Not the typical hotel breakfast, it was
pretty good. Since it's been raining nonstop it dripped on us most of
the time. We entertained ourselves by guessing what country people were
from based on weird fashion choices, one of our favorite games. Fake
Burberry hat and matching tshirt trim (Russia, obviously) was the winner
today. Is that a mean game to play?
Spent most of the rest of the morning and early afternoon lounging
around the room. When the rain stopped we put on our swimsuits and
decided we couldn't stay away from the ocean for another minute. Of
course it started raining again as soon as we got outside but nothing
was stopping us, we waded around and swam for about an hour and it was
GREAT!
There are three things we wanted to do while we were here, stay in
an Art
Deco hotel, eat Cuban food and go the beach as much as possible.
John works so hard and doesn't get much time off so he really needed a
long, lovely, relaxing vacation. Laying in the sun on the beach,
swimming in the warm gorgeous ocean, napping and not worrying about work
or responsibilities. Let's hope we get some sun.
Another pit stop to wash off the sea and sand and relax in the room
for awhile. Around 4 we got too hungry to stay in bed so we went down to
our hotel restaurant, The Place, for a late lunch. John had a Cobb
salad, Marleah had crab chowder. Plain, somewhat bland, super duper
expensive. Huge beer, huge wine and we rarely drink so that sorta kicked
out butts. Everyone is so drunk around here. The one good thing that
happened at lunch is the sun came out!!
We didn't do anything all evening. Bed and tv and that's it!
We dressed and walked to a place called Oliver's for dinner at 9:30.
The food at lunch gave Marleah a migraine so no alcohol for her, John
had a Spaten beer from Germany
which he loves. We ate/drank at the
Spaten restaurant/brewery when we were in Munich and we had a nice
nostalgic moment talking about our honeymoon and feeling homesick for
Germany. We both ordered different dishes but both some version of steak
and fries. John's was great and Marleah's wasn't and she is already
tired of all the meat here having a tangy, lime marinated flavor. The
ice cream and coffee after dinner were a nice end. Kind of a weird
restaurant, wants to be a French bistro, but also a Cuban restaurant,
maybe some risotto and pasta too. The walk back to our hotel was fun, we
spent time looking at the many Art Deco apartment buildings. Miami at
night is so beautiful and really different than Miami during the day.
It's really euro-feeling here, lots of languages all the time and it's
surprisingly easy to forget where you are! France??
P.S. We got back to our hotel right before the evening deluge, AGAIN, because we're rain psychics.
