You had a day off, folks, so now it's time to catch up. Sunday, New Years Day, we were taking our time packing up.....you weren't in any rush either. I heard some whining. Our friend, Sandy, sent us a message stating our site was empty at Tropical Palms. Okay! Pick up the pace, gang.....lets get going. We leaving town, NOW!
Off and running from the KOA campground at 10:10 AM. Settle back...we'll be there soon.
11:40 AM.....we are here at last! Back to our winter home. We have landed, dear friends! Hooray! We are at the Tropical Palms Resort and Campground. Not problems checking in. Smooth as a piece of pie....not like last year. Our friend, John, is the first to greet us as we wait to get registered. Gary was with him so it was double time the glee. John is a fine guy. You would like him. He likes old classic cars and owns one. Gary does, too.
Once on our site (#317), who did you think we see next? Yep, our dear friends, Sam & Sandy. We have missed them a lot. It was so wonderful to be with them again. Life is good! Pretty soon,
Walt & Diane arrived in their Yankee Baseball theme golf cart. Just great seeing them. And the greetings continued: Carolyn & Bill came over. John and Linda pulled in right behind us. Lois and Mike arrived in their car. Jeff (Lulu's boyfriend) joined the merriment. He is the merriment! Jeff works here. He keeps this place going...."yeah" for Jeff. It was just like old home days. So thrilling seeing all of these great people, again. We are really home.
We start hooking up, putting up, cleaning up, hanging up.....the routine setting up process but now it's for a four month stay. Lovely yard and inside decor start appearing. Ooooooo. Be-u-tee-ful! We are big into solar this year cause now they are charging us extra for electric. Boo, but we can handle it. Soon, Dave...The RV repair expert, came by. He and his wife, Linda, are a lovely couple. You'll meet them again. Dave & Cory like to toast one another with a drink of Royal Crowne. It's celebration time...yahoo!
Hours pass as we work away. Hey...you could lend a better hand in this process, you know. Lulu is so willing but she has no hands. Bless her heart
(which she doesn't have either). We are sweating now. No more layering of our warm clothes. It's strip down time. WOW....we are finally hot! Get the fans out! Will try and avoid the air conditioning for as long as we can. Fortunately, Sandy came back over and we can take a break...actually call it quits for now. We have plenty of time to get all of it done.....not going anywhere for awhile. Maybe you'll get more enthusiastic about pitching in.
Its deja vu time. Having our dear friends, Sam & Sandy, join us for an evening of chatter. So much catching up to do. Sandy looks wonderful. She has lost a ton of weight (not that she was heavy). She said she did it by walking. She walks 5 miles/day as Sam scoots along next to her. WOW! Today, we went shopping and a bought a new pair of Sketcher walking sneakers. I'm going walking!! Lulu will, too....best she can with no legs.
Sam looks good, too. He had quite a session with heart issues before they came down here. The doctors and Sandy got him back in good shape. Just goes to show you: you can't keep
a good man down. He's a trooper! It was so exciting to be back together again. We ordered a pizza delivery so we didn't have to pick up and go somewhere. We were on a talking and laughing marathon.
Woke up this morning with the same startle: where are we? This will go on for a couple days as we readjust to our new environment. Cory got right into his morning walk routine. I'll be joining him but first I had to have this morning just to easily roll myself out of our comfy bed. Remember, we have the "Princess & The Pea" bed 'cause I've piled so many foam and pillow tops on top of our sleep number mattress. We have to slide off it to reach the floor. I don't have to bend over to make the bed....it's at arms reach....almost eye level. The floor is raised on Cory's side and I have a little step to use so we are good to go getting into it.
Still puttering around the RV doing more of our "set up." Now it's starting to look like us. Busy & flashy. We did try to cut back on bringing
everything we owned but it still seems we have more than an abundant supply of goodies. So far, our TV reception is only fair, can't get on the Internet, our outside TV doesn't work at all.....but we'll get it remedied...hopefully. Pray for us.
We saw more friends today: Fran & Connie & Donnie. Terrific...being back with these good folks. At the same time, Judy and Rita pulled up in their golf cart. Judy is now our activities director and Rita works for her. They are such sweet gals. What fun and joy to see them again. Another exciting part of our day was when we left to go shopping. Just guess the first place we went! You're right! Our favorite store:Walmart. Hooray. Steve, the greeter, was back at his station...so good to see him again. He's from the Bronx. Has been a greeter here for several years. He's like a good ol' friend. After Walmart, we raced to Lowes (saw Cory's golfing buddy, Doris, and his wife....they speak French and I am always trying to say a few French words with them- they are so tolerant with me). Last stop: BJ's. All these stores are so handy. A dream
come true. I'm in my gloryland. Yay!
Back at the RV, we turned on a few fans...had to. Stuffy and Hot! Haven't felt this in a long time so it is truly welcomed. No more Brrrr.
After supper, I put on my new sneakers and Cory and I took a walk around some of our park. Saw Tammy and Gord. Loved seeing them again. Tammy keeps you laughing in stitches....she's so funny. We plugged along (mostly me) until my legs broke. Time to go back. I have to get my Fitbit working again so I can take credit for my New Year's resolution: walk, walk and keep walking.
We called Sandy "Little Sandy" in years past...now she is "Tiny Sandy". I'm hoping to be called "Middling Sandy" .... I'd be very happy with that. So put your walking shoes on, everyone - we're going hiking!
