Our Saviors
Sandy, Jon & Mike Weather in Florida this winter seems cooler than years past. Is El Niño the culprit? I don't know. What I do know is that I have worn mostly long pants since arriving here on January 4th. Cory doesn't mind it....he wears shorts no matter what...well, unless his legs turn blue. And, of course, Lulu has no problem with cold extremities. She has hats to wear when her big head gets chilly.
Then there are the rainy, windy days. Remember how I mentioned, you don't want to be out on the highway when that happens. Blinding! Can't see a thing ahead of you or around you for that matter. It bad, very bad. So now to our present status. We are sad....sniff, sniff. The other day when they had multiple tornadoes throughout Florida, we experienced the bad rains and wind. If we ever had a tornado here at the park, I have no idea where we would go for safety. They say if there is no shelter building, go to a ditch, etc. Well, the ditch down from our RV is filthy, nasty and scum-laden ......nothing you would want to lie in that's for sure. I guess if it were life
Our Broken Tent
Trying save it but it was a goner or death, you would just hold your breath, close your eyes and plunk yourself into this swamp hole. Yuck! Shiver my timbers, matey. Let's not think about it.
Anyway......we stayed tight and secure in our RV while the storm splattered our park. It was mean. I keep asking Cory if he had battened down all our hatches and he assured me he had. We were closed up like a drum. By noontime, the storm had passed. Whew! I needed to get a few things at the store so by checking our smartphone and the weather Doppler, we had a clear window until 3:00 PM. Then, another storm would hit. We jumped in our car and raced to Wal-Mart (my favorite) and Publix. All seemed well......until we got a phone call while in Publix from Sandy. She said our canopy tent had blown over and was heading towards the motor home next door to us! Yikes! The storm came sooner than planned.....actually just enormous gusts of wind. We flew out of Publix like bats out of he_l and torn back to the park. "There are Good Ships and Wood Ships, but the Best Ships are Friendships!" As we jumped out
Lulu looks over the empty tent site
Lulu goes to the dumpster to retrieve our tent of the car, there were are dear friends: Sandy, Mike and Jon, trying to anchor the tent down. We our indebted to them for life. Thank you, thank you, thank you. You are all so good! Our tent roof had ripped along one entire side and as it "swayed", the metal posts bent all which way. It never came unanchored (Cory had done a good job.....he's used to anchoring tents from our shows).....just the material tore which made the whole tent crunch, fold and bend all up. We managed to get the thing disassembled and down. To the dumpster it went: sniff, sniff.....rats! Ever so grateful to this fearless threesome for keeping it in place so it didn't go over onto the neighbor's RV. So much for the weather Doppler! About as reliable as Don Paul back home. And then the torrential rains came....Cory stayed out in it putting our stuff undercover....call him Mr. Wet Rat.
And now we sit.....unprotected and in the sun (when it's not cloudy). Our site looks empty....like we are packing up. It's not cozy anymore. Lulu cries. No more parties to plan in the delightful party tent. We had it lit up like Las
No party tent
Front to back Vegas at night. It was beautiful. Oh well, such is life. Deal with it...suck it up! If we have any outdoor festivities, everyone can just hold a candle to light up the night. That will work....except for Lulu.....she can just sit next to a candle on a table.
Even though we don't have a party tent to entertain folks, we have managed. Our friends from the Brimfield Show came to visit. Linda & Jim. They live in Connecticut and have a Florida cottage they bought in a park up Rt.27....near Clermont. They sell at Webster....close and handy for them. It is always nice to see them and share our "selling and dealing" stories together. They are fun to be with and we hope to see them again in a couple weeks.
Tropical Palms put on another free entertainment show for us long-termers. It was the same singer, Keith Allyn, as we saw a month earlier. This time he did a tribute to Neil Diamond. It was a good show. The sandwiches and snacks were yummy. Kudos to the hard working staff who put all this together. We appreciate you.
Walking around our park, we noted a couple
quite unique recreational vehicles. The one that looks like a light house has a pop-up on top. It is a sitting/sleeping room with a TV. Using the screens on a warm evening would be perfect for a night in heaven. The big 5th wheel has a clever porch on the back. French doors open to let you in and out. This unit is parked in front of us. The colorful school bus came in the other day. It had two VW Bus tops attached to the top. When he backed into his site, the back VW bus window was broken by a piercing tree branch. Rats. He had a glass repair person come and fix it....bet that was a different call for this serviceman.
We hope you all are doing fine wherever your homestead may be. We feel fortunate to have all of you following along with us on this blog. When I write it, I am thinking and writing it for each of you. Kind of like a digital phone call. When I can share our difficult times (i.e.: broken tent), it is a good catharsis for me. When I can share the good times with you; it
makes it even more fun for us. So hang in there. There are more good times ahead and hopefully, no more bad ones. We just take it a day at a time. What will be, will be.
