We Made It!
We are at Tropical Palms RV Resort Made it! Yep, we have finally made it here to Tropical Palms.....our winter retreat. Our goal accomplished. What a great feeling. The sun is shining and there is a touch of warmth to the air. Hallelujah! All in unison now: Hip-Hip-Hooray...Hip-Hip-Hooray.....What a Great Day! Thank you for being such good traveling companions. Even when we hit a few touchy situations, you stayed strong and positive. That has to be why we made it all this way with actually no major catastrophes - minus the death defying drive I had on I-95 yesterday. That was bad and even worse that all of you and Lulu were in the RV with Cory while I was alone and petrified in the car. No one could hear my panicked screams for help....no one. Feel sorry for me? I hope so.
As decided, we got up earlier today so we could get a good start. We left Brunswick, Georgia at 8:10 AM. Within a few minutes, we were in Florida. Yippee. I was picturing myself gathering up the multitude of tourist booklets at the huge Welcome Center we ALWAYS stop at. Cory gets a cup of orange juice. Lulu poses for pictures. Oh, Boy -
Lake City, Florida
Getting Propane at Camping World Oh, Boy. HEY! Whoa. What a minute. What’s this? We are flying by the huge Welcome Center like a rocket shot into the sky. Stop! Aren’t you stopping at the huge Welcome Center we ALWAYS stop it??? Obviously, we aren’t! We are now miles down the pike! Cory said he didn’t know I wanted to stop at it....didn’t know? We ALWAYS stop....no matter what. It’s tradition - it’s routine- it’s how I get all my coupons for Florida! I see the disappointment in your eyes, too. Lulu is sobbing! But....too late now. Maybe next year. Rats!
Licking my wounds, we plan our next stop: Lake City Camping World. Cory had called to see if we can get propane here. Yes....good. We aren’t out by any means but we did use some coming down when running our furnace. Best to fill up as we don’t know how long this cold spell will last or if it will happen again. Once at Tropical Palms, we can switch over to electric heat but I need the propane for our stove. Plus, we are being charged for electric now so before we run up a huge bill, we can use our propane with
the furnace.
As we buzz along the highway and get closer to our destination, we study all the new changes and construction that has gone on in the vicinity of Tropical Palms. Always something new. This year there is another new Walmart. Be still my heart. My favorite store, you know. We are truly in Gloryland. Hallelujah.
As we turned the corner into Tropical Palms, we could see our friend, Pam, giving us a welcome wave from her classy little Smart Car. We pulled up and checked in. Lulu is beside herself. She has guided us the whole way and now she can leave her navigational post. In the office, it was so good to see Karen, again. She even had our mail for us! Lots of new faces at the desk .... all are friendly faces. Cory unhooks the car for the last time... for 4 months anyway. He carefully maneuvers our rolling giant into our familiar site: # 317. Home at last.... we are home. Home becomes wherever we park it! Bill and Carolyn come across the road to greet us, followed by Lois & Mike. So nice to see all these friendly faces again. George
stops for a “hi”with his boxer dog. Cory and I continue to perform the ritual “set-up” duties. We concentrate on making sure the RV is level. Then, Cory hooks up the electric, water, sewer and TV cable. I’m inside trying to make sense of the hovel we’ve created inside this RV. Slowly it begins to come together. Just the basics right now. We’ll tend to the “decorating” another day. More important things to do right now.......Sam & Sandy are here! Hooray! It is sooooo good seeing them again. We have missed them a lot. Lots to catch up on. We’ll do that over supper tonight. Since our car is still packed like a junk truck....and utterly filthy beyond words.....Sam drives all of us to dinner. Good choice: The Texas Roadhouse. We can get a celebratory drink besides a tasty meal with rolls that melt in your mouth. Cory offers up our favorite toast: There are good ships and wood ships but the best ships are friendships. Yay! So true! It seemed so long ago but then it really didn’t ...it was all so familiar - that our foursome had sat together like this.....laughing and enjoying this time together again. I
know you had a good time tonight....we could hear you when we drove home. Hail, Hail - The Gang’s All Here...We are happy....let the good times roll!
