Run, Forrest, Run
Heading towards Webster Just as planned and as written on your dance card, our touring car took us to Webster and their mega flea market yesterday. Most all of you signed up to join us so we had quite a load. You never know what you might see along the drive here. Much of it is just old, barren scrub land. I do like the back road we take where the trees intertwine to make a leafy tunnel with the Spanish moss holding it all together....just like in the Forrest Gump movie....Run, Forrest, Run! But today, it wasn’t Forrest Gump running along the roadway, it was a small cow. This black heifer had found itself outside its fenced-in yard and was dining where the “grass was greener.” I can’t blame it. The lush green pastures from home are not anything like what is down here....only brown and scrubby fields.
Being Martin Luther King Day the sale was bigger than usual....they use the overflow area across the road for the extra dealers and their wares. However, this year it wasn’t really quite as huge as expected. Was it the weather? The temperature was chilly but with the sun shining, it was a very comfortable
day. Oh, if only our Northern family and friends could have just a little bit of this warm weather. Mother Nature continues to be mean and nasty up there. We had our mittens and caps on in the beginning but later in the day could shed them as well as our jackets. Maybe......as we have found over the last few years, the interest in “old stuff” has dwindled. Folks are just as content with “repro’s” that look old but cost less. There was a lot of that today. We are glad we are out of the business. We don’t have to contend with the changing status. We loved it during its peak and reaped it’s benefits. Now, we just enjoy looking around - noting various interesting items that we would have bought at one time.....but not now. I thought we might have withdrawal symptoms but not really. We just thought about all the work that went behind it all and we were just fine. Boy, talk about changing times. Who would have thought the day would have come when we would be talking like that and not be buying anything?? Unbelievable! I know.
Sam wasted no time getting around
Sam & Cory
Ready for the “Thrill of the Hunt” the fields. His scooter allows him to cover the areas like a speedster demon. He’s on a mission to get cannon parts. Another successful day for him. Hooray, more cannons will be made! The cannon factory will be open, again. Keep clapping. Sam likes that.
As we hiked through the multitude of rows of eye-catching stuff, we found our dealer friends, Jim & Linda. You have met them before. We met them years ago when selling our wares at Brimfield. They live in Connecticut but during the winter, they live on Rt.27 in a residential/RV Park where they own a nice cottage home. Always good seeing them again. They are still dedicated to the business - selling their items under one of the pavilions.....on The West Side. You can hear the loud speaker voice shout out over the crowd: “The West Side Is The Best Side”! Surprise! A familiar face appeared along our route. Pam, from Tropical Palms, was one of the many shoppers here on “The West Side”. She always brightens a day with her happy smile and jovial laughter. Oh, Happy Day!
Sandy prefers “the other side.” - ? The East Side? Here the giant pavilions
Shopping on “The West Side”
The West Side is the Best Side are filled with all the trinkets ever made....in China! You can find some real goodies here. There are also mounds and mounds of fruits and vegetables to purchase. No one ever goes home empty handed! Except for Lulu....she has no hands. As you can see, Lulu did not accompany us this time. She was feeling kind of dumpy and found herself content to stay in bed. I took some photos to share with her so she wouldn’t feel too miserable.
By the time we decide to leave this place, our appetites are well charged. Bob Evans fits are needs nicely. It was a fun day. Sam was happy to tell us about each wonderful flea market find he discovered during “the thrill of the hunt”. This always provides an exciting exchange of chatter.
Today was “repair” day. Remember the incident with our car when we first tried to leave our home in Shongo and head to Florida? When there was the deafening squealing as we drove down the road in front of our house? When we discovered two big flat tires on our car once we stopped our caravan along side the road? ‘member?? Remember how we had
Many Shoppers
On the West Side a weeks’ delay in starting out again while the repair shop worked on our car? Remember there were a couple problems they didn’t fix and told us just to get them repaired down here? ....the air conditioner and the “under belly”plate. Remember all this? Do you? Good!
So that was where we went and what we did today. Cory had made an appointment with the Jarrett Gordon Ford dealership at the intersection of Rt.27 and I-4. They said they could take care of these repair problems. Sam & Sandy followed us because we decided to go to the movies while they worked on our car. Of course, nothing ever goes as planned....does it? Why? Just life, I guess. Once at the service place, they said they could only inspect our car, decide what to do and ORDER the parts. NOT what they said when the appointment was made! But that’s life...take it or leave it! So we left it and went to the movies at the Cinepolis IMAX theater in the Posner Park Mall. We saw the movie The Post. It was very good and starred my two favorite actors: Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks. We thought the theater
would have the big, comfy lounge chairs that we have come to expect. Love those relaxing lounges! Nope...these chairs just rocked a little but that’s it. That’s life, right? The car place called - said they were getting the parts in later today so could have the car fixed by noon tomorrow. Good! Fortunately, our dear friends have agreed to take us back again so we can pick up our car. Deja Vue! You are all welcome to come along. Sam and Sandy have a roomy vehicle.
After gorging ourselves on the most expensive popcorn snack one could possibly buy (the biggest movie theater rip-off ever), we struggled to decide where and what to eat. Cracker Barrel won out. We love this place. Hey, look! Another livestock interaction. One day a cow; the next, a flock of ducks. Well, a family of them: the mother and her ducklings. Oh, cute...but they need to find a better location. The parking lot of Cracker Barrel is not the prime spot for these feathered friends. Run, Little ducks, Run! The food at this restaurant is always tasty. Now, instead of purchasing a big slice of their double chocolate fudge coca-cola cake, you
can get it as a cup cake. Remember I told you about this magnificent to-die-for cake before? Remember? Ooooo, it is so beyond good! But....after a tasty meal and the remnants of the pricey popcorn, we had no room for this scrumptious cake....rats! Next time....yes, there will be a next time for sure. So be sure and leave room for this fabulous morsel. It is the best and so are you!
Don’t forget....keep scrolling WAY down to see all 16 photos.
