No time to waste. We have many places to go and things to do. Jump aboard, we’re ready for memory making. Let me see....head count - yep, everyone is here. Good! Time to go. We’re off!
Yesterday the sky was overcast and there was a chill in the air. Our spur of the moment agenda plan was to go to the Auburndale Flea Market. You can guess who was the main one to mention that place. Sam loves flea markets! We still do, too, even though we don’t look for old treasures to buy anymore. Maybe a new trinket here or there and of course, fruits and vegetables are always a safe purchase. Too much chatter and confusion and we missed the exit. Oh, well, a nice scenic tour around Lakeland is always nice. Eventually, we reached this dusty destination. Everyone else in Florida must have had the same event marked down on their dance card. It was crowded and busy. One end of this ample junkers’ delight Mecca included a special event called The Pow-Wow Festival. We didn’t make it over to that section but I think that brought many of the attendees because parking was tight. Lulu enjoyed
her visit here. She loves all the unique things to do and see. A nice surprise as we rambled around the grounds was when we ran into Judy and Mac from Tropical Palms. Good minds think alike when selecting places to visit. Sam was very pleased with himself as he was able to find some good pieces to make his new cannons. Cory and he were happy when they both bought a new Ryobi tool from a dealer. Sandy and I settled for $1.00 hand grip for our IPads. We’re cheap dates.
Always on our minds is where to eat. We like Gary’s Oyster Bar and Seafood House in this area.....but it doesn’t open until 4:00 PM. It’s only 2:00 PM right now. Instead, our driver takes us to Harry’s Old Place where we have dined before....again....not open until 4:00. Doesn’t anyone in Florida eat earlier than after four o’clock?? While enjoying the scenic tour again, we find ourselves at one of our most favorite standbys: Cherry Pocket. This is a unique and very rustic old fish camp. Their newspaper style menu stated they suffered some damage from the recent hurricane. We didn’t notice any issues — it is
Sam is excited
And ready to go..... kind of rough in places....even without hurricane damage. It stated they lost over 100 trees. Lulu found one special tree where she could hang out. Folks from all around travel the winding back roads to dine here amongst the many dollar bills plastered all around and over their bar area. This place will never go broke....there must be hundreds of authentic dollar bills attached as their decorative wallpaper. The other decor throughout this quaint restaurant is appropriate...old & vintage. The owner, Linda, remembers us.....mostly because she remembers Lulu. Each visit, they pose together for their annual photograph. Linda uses this photo as her screensaver....who wouldn’t! Lulu would be happy to accommodate any of your requests. If you have never been to Cherry Pocket ....put it on your travel list.....you’ll like it! You’ll need a GPS to get here, though. P.S. You don’t have to dress in your Sunday best to dine here.
A big shout out to our youngest grandson, Conner Guenter. Today is his 12th birthday. How can he being growing up so fast? Happy Birthday, dear Conner. We love you very much!
What’s next on the travel agenda? Put on your hiking shoes and grab your
walking stick. Tomorrow we are going to the biggest Flea Market of all: Webster. Because it’s the Martin Luther King holiday - it’s going to be huge! Their two mega days are tomorrow and President’s Day. Dealers set up across the road as overflow besides being in the main field. We used to set up and sell here when we were “in the business”. Now it’s just fun to roam around and see all the neat stuff and maybe run into a familiar dealer friend. Pick you up early morning...we like a good start. But not too early...the day of leaving at the crack of dawn is a thing of the past.....we don’t have to be the early bird anymore cause we don’t care about getting the worms now. It will be a fun day. Weather might be a tad chilly....pack your gloves and mittens.
