Edit Blog Post
So I am actually writting this a week later.... but I am so excited to finally be posting my first trip for travel blog !! Been an avid reader here and there for about a year and now I finally have a trip !! lol, I'm a dork... ok....
Got to DC - Dulles around 2:30 in the afternoon and met up w/ my sister and her boyfriend at the airport. Their flights had landed about an hour earlier and had waited for us. So after a quick and brief introduction... (Jay had never met Cyrus before) we were on our way. Not without paying a nice $70.00 for a shuttle to the hotel. Luckily we had the airport shuttle to ourselves so that was kind of fun. Got to hear stories of my sisters first half of her vacation (she had been in San Antonio the week before). After arrival at the hotel, the Mandarian Oriental, which is a nice nice hotel, we checked in.
After settling in for a bit and getting our luggage to our room, which by the way had a lovely view of the Washington Monument, we decided to go see a bit of
Capitol building
myself, Jay & Cyrus the city. And by seeing the city, I mean just walking... around. The first thing we noticed was a Starbucks across the street, YEAH !! (Little did we know the Starbucks would come in handy) We began walking near the Smithsonian Museums at which point I complained I was hungry so we made a pit stop into the Air and Space Museum to get some food at their food court, then we left, but promising we'd be back before the week was up.
We continued walking towards the Capitol building and snapping pictures at pretty much anything, we were in DC ! Finally after 4 months or so of planning. Sadly, it was already near 5pm and most the museums were getting ready to close, so we basically walked right past the Capitol building w/o going inside it, but got some really cool pictures though. Jay and I wanted to walk all the way to the Washington Monument, but Chelse wanted to go back to the hotel and relax so we walked back.
The only complaint was, we noticed rather quickly, NO FOOD !! We could not find any fast food resturants, or Applebees type places anywhere !!
Capitol building
more Capitol Hill Aside from the food courts inside the museums we couldnt find anywhere to eat ! The hotel is in a strange, isolated area, but from my understanding, it is newly devopled area, which luckily is close to the Mall. I learned quickly that "The Mall" does NOT mean shopping mall !!
After asking the concierge where to get dinner, he recomended two resturants which were behind the hotel after crossing the bridge and were rather hidden. We chose a seafood resturant, which had ok service and food, definatly not the best. I told Jay that we'd have to find out more info about resturants in the area or we'd have a problem all week, the hotel was way too expensive to dine at!
So that's day one...
