The photograph of these six soldiers made the newspapers. When three of the six soldiers were found in the middle of the war, they were brought back to the United States and treated like heros. They did not like all of the attention because they felt that the true heros were the ones still fighting.

This memorial only took six years to erect, which is much faster than the World War II Memorial took. This may be due to the fact that when the soldiers returned home, the government took away their guns and weaponry before loading them onto a bus to go home. People lined the streets, shouting and spitting at the soldiers. One soldier said to another one sitting beside him, "I wish I had my gun." After this horrible "welcome home," the soldiers deserved something special, hence the Vietnam War Memorial.

If you stacked up everybook in the Library of Congress from cover to cover, it would be long enough to reach the moon. Since there are so many books, people do not go into the actual library part. Instead, they find the title of the book that they want and they tell someone. They get the book to the person and he or she may use it in one of the reading rooms.
