The Final Days -- Colorado Springs
The trip from Moab to Colorado Springs was to say the least very, very, very long. We started with pancakes at the camp ground and set off to take a scenic drive along the Colorado River. When we turned onto the road there was a sign warning of a bridge being out down the road and it was open for local traffic only. So needless to say we turned around and headed off down another road, only to be stopped for about 30 minutes in road construction. We wanted to make two stops along the way and we thought that being allowed to go 75 mph on the major roads would help make up time lost. As we went down the road toward our first stop, The Black Canyon of Gunnison, we had to follow route 50 instead of the major route 70 across Colorado. We got to the park, a very deep canyon created by the Gunnison River, and of course it took more time then expected. As we went off down the road toward the next stop of Bishop's Castle, we realized that route 50 was much slower route than we

By 6 pm we had not even reached the turn off for the castle, which would have been at least another hour to hour and a half, so we decided that we needed to change plans. We were expected at the home of a college friend in Colorado Springs sometime that evening so we just decided to head that way looking for a dinner stop along the way. We arrived at our friend's shortly after 9 pm. It was so heart warming to see three children jumping and waving their hands in the dark to get our attention so we knew which house was theirs. The night ended with fun conversation and a nice warm bed that didn't include one being made on the kitchen table.
Thursday was spent seeing beautiful sights, making new friends, and winning a baseball game. It started with a shower in an area larger than 3x3. The Kendall family was very warm and friendly. Kim, our college friend, her husband Guy and children Katheryn- 12, Rebecca-11, and Joshua-7 opened their home to us. After breakfast they took us around to several stores to see about replacing Ben's charger for his computer. Somewhere along
the line, the cord had been pinched and frayed. After 2 stores they informed us that to replace it would cost $75 or they could fix it by 8am on Friday for only $15. Needless to say we chose to have it fixed. On to the Garden of the Gods, beautiful rock formations that the children all loved to climb on (even though they were not supposed to). Lunch was at Fargo's a pizza parlor with a player piano, decor from the late 1800's and employee's dressed from the same era. The afternoon was spent going underground to the Cave of Winds. This was a good way to stay cool and see a different side of the rock in the hills. The evening was spent at a Sky Socks minor league baseball game. Rebecca was out on the field with the players of the Sky Sox team as part of a end of the season party with her softball team. All the children had informed us that they had never seen the team win a game. But with the luck that we brought with us, they saw the Sky Socks win 12 to 8 over the Idaho Cubs. By the
time we returned to nice warm beds all the children had become great friends.
Friday started early with pressure to return RoVer by 12 noon in Denver. We said our goodbyes and went off to get Ben's charger. We returned to Denver to our friend Dave's home to retrieve our suitcases. We had 1 hour to repack everything we had in RoVer for the past 3 weeks ( and make everything fit into the same suitcases we started with). We figured we could always send somethings home via UPS if we needed to. But we did it. We all worked together and made it work. On the way back to RoVer's home, Chris started questioning where his camera was. None of us remembered packing it, so needless to say what was packed became unpacked in the hotel room. The camera was found safe and sound in the suitcase that had everything else electronic related. We went for a swim in the indoor pool and found this afternoon very relaxing and a great time of unwinding after the pressure of saying good-bye to RoVer.
Tomorrow is our flight back to BWI. We are hoping for a good flight. We
can't wait to get home and see Ginger and everyone else.

Fun Fact for the days- The roads on a map with little dots next to it may be scenic, but they also are very, very long.
