On the Road Again
Heading south on I-5 enroute to Yuba City. After getting absolutely no sleep last night in the car, we were up and driving again by 6am. For those that know me well, the only time I usually see 6am is when Jose is waking up and going to work and then I fall right back asleep. I had to get the kids situated into their car seats again and then we were off. I had to keep stopping for bathroom breaks. It seems that everytime I stop to go potty, Erika either goes pee or says that she doesn't need to go. Then as soon as I get back on the road, she suddenly has to go potty. Erika has to stop at nearly every rest area. Somewhere in the children's manual, it instructs them to hold back something and save it for the next rest area in 15 miles. We finally made it to Yuba City and stopped to unwind. Kara decided to take Justin, my two girls, and Amber's two girls to the park down the street so that I could take a nap. Well, somehow the door got locked behind us and there I was stuck in the yard to take a nap if I really
Another Rest Area
So far we haven't driven past any rest areas... needed it. After a little while, I finally gave up. Kara called me from the park at her wit's end because both the babies were crying, Justin was trying to climb up the equipment, etc and could I please walk over and grab my baby? I still tried to sleep after finally getting into the house but no such luck. The one interesting part of my break spent in Yuba City is that I had my eyebrows threaded. Yes, you heard right, threaded. I ran over to this little Indian stylist and she used white cotton thread, like the type you sew with, and twists it in some fashion and pulls the hair out. It was definitely a new experience for me. I wish we had someone like her back in Bend. She only charges $5 and I normally pay $19 at home for a wax that sometimes pulls the skin off my face!
After a lovely dinner/snack of Top Ramen, I loaded up the kids and all our crap and prepared for another long evening on the road. This time, I was better prepared. I "borrowed" Kara's two screen portable DVD player and set one up on the
My One and Only Nephew
We drove out of our way to spend time in Yuba City with our favorite, and only, nephew/cousin Justin. passenger head rest and the other against the back seat so that both Mia and Erika could watch movies and keep them entertained. I also borrowed Kara's navigational thingy
Navatlas XNAV3550 and now I'm in love. You just pull in a town or address and it takes you right to their doorstep. So now I have to either convince Kara to sell it to me or buy one myself on Ebay or whatnot. I had really hoped to make it to San Diego tonight and sleep at my cousin Barney's house but I was just too tired after having slept in the car last night and the multiple stops that I had to make for "Hold Me All the Time Mia" and "I Need to Go Potty Erika". I finally called it quits in a roadside town called Coalinga and paid $43.99 for a double bed in a Motel 6. The accomodations were pretty minimal which just reminds me again why I normally stay at Best Western when I have a choice but my budget said no this time. The front desk clerk was kind enough to call my room in the middle of the night and tell me to please lower the volume of noise in my room. Since I was sound asleep with both my daughters, I assured her that death was the only way to get us any quieter and that perhaps she might have made an error but thank you for calling to check in on us, sheesh!!
