…was nothing but driving and looking at the scenery…and appreciating the air conditioning. Did you know Oregon has pelicans? I sure didn’t. In one of the creeks that ran alongside Hwy 97 we saw two or three pelicans hanging out and bathing. We left Klamath Falls and headed into California. When you enter California in that area, Mt. Shasta is straight ahead. From a distance it’s pretty to look at, even with the low snow pack. The closer we got, the more impressive it became, although it’s still not as good as Mount Rainier (yes, just a little biased). Mt. Shasta guided us to where we picked up I-5. On our way to the freeway, we were stopped at our first inspection station. Everybody was subjected to California inspectors looking for citrus fruit. Luckily we had ... read more

Another new town visited for me. After living in California for 6 years and many trips up and down the state I had never been to the Lake Tahoe area. Granted I moved to California to get away from the cold and snow and have only snow skied once in my life. But Jared & Kendra's wedding brought us to Truckee and what a fantastic time we had. This was the first wedding we had attended since our own two ceremonies. Jared & Kendra met in Truckee almost 8 years ago. Jared was working in the culinary field and Kendra was doing the ski bum thing after graduating from UCLA. It all started in a little bar in Truckee and in this same town almost 8 years later we celebrated with them for 4 nights of ... read more

It’s not like you’re completely heading out into the wilderness or going it alone. But you are still driving a car up and then down an icy mountain. You’re still crossing 7,000 feet in the blowing snow with jackknifed trucks along the route. And you’re doing it over a pass named quite specifically for horrible starving death on a frozen mountain. Anyone who says they aren’t gripping the wheel tightly is either lying or utterly careless. I had this joy on Thursday of this week, on a return drive from Reno to the Bay Area. The weather forecast was similar on through to ... read more

6/22-23/08 In Truckee we had a lot of fun! We visited here first because this is where my grandma lives. We went out to the Donnor Lake and rented a paddle boat. Guess what! I lost phone #3 which is now currently in the bottom of the lake. I have not started this trip off well. That night Clay and my dad road mountain bikes and got in a couple of tumbles! Katie ... read more

Hey everyone, this is going to just be a brief introduction of what it is that is going on here and why it is that you are all invited to read along. Basically as many of you know me and Jess have been bumming about for a while now and she has finally decided to go to Medical School in Philadelphia, like she was going to do 2 years ago. In the meantime we have had a lot of great adventures and we figured why not ease our transition into the "real world" with another great adventure. The general premise is that we have to move to Philly so she can start school by Aug 1 and we currently live in Truckee, CA near Lake Tahoe (which is amazing). In order to get to Philly we ... read more
