Seufer6: Destination: San Francisco January 18, 2007 Day 1: After a few days in Laguna Beach we headed to San Francisco! At the airport we checked 10 bags and they were pretty much all over the weight limit. We flew all the way of course. It was a pretty short flight. I sat with Lilly and my dad, and behind us was Emma, Mom, and Tanner. It seemed like a long flight (actually only 1 hr. & 20 mins.) but we managed to get through the whole thing. When we arived we walked with all of our stuff to a big long, black, pretty limo. It was neat to ride in. We got to our hotel which was called The Huntington Hotel and is on California Street in a place called Nob Hill. We met up ... read more

This entry will be short and sweet. I've been in New Zealand for the last week and a half, but spent the holidays in San Francisco. Here are just a few photos from SF: http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=n1ics9r.7vp9zfqz&x=0&y=v4n9vh It was great to get home for Christmas. I got in on Christmas eve. Hung with the family for a few days to catch up, eat some good food and wine, and have a super comfy room and bed to sleep in. Jeff, the guy I met in Panama flew out for a week to spend New Years in San fransico. We got a room right at Union Square, which is one of my favorite places this time of year. We did all the touristy stuff. Ran all over town (literally) from Union Square to Chinatown, North Beach, up to Coit ... read more

Welcome! This is the begining of our trip, and we're trying to figure out this travel blog thing so every body can follow us on our journey. We're starting off in California, we moved out of our house a couple days ago and quit our jobs a few weeks before that. We're now at Brandi's wonderful mom's (and Dave's) house in San Rafael, and from here we're thinking about going up to Sacramento for a few days before we get to some hardcore driving. Right now, we're doing a lot of work on the bus, putting on the finishing touches. Gimli (yes, named after the Lord of the Rings character) is going to be converted to running on veggie oil this weekend, so we're really excited about that! We are setting up our surround sound system ... read more

Trip back to San Francisco was fairly easy and we dropped Jason back at the airport to make his way back to UK. Sarah, Dave, Mark, Beckie and myself then stayed in San Fran for a few more days to take in the sights of the city. We stayed in "The Opal" hotel on Van Ness. Good value place and you get breakfast thrown in. Its near some good transport links so is a pretty good bet for the cost conscious! After managing to return the fun bus to Budget in their underground car park (Dave and I did not think we were going to make it down the ramp in places - very tight!) We walked into China town past the cathedral and some other historic buildings. China town was a slightly mad place with ... read more

So last year we went to almost a dozen cities in Europe, mostly in the Balkins and had a great time. But we aren't so into the organized tour scene so, for the most part we did our own research and had tours and info all ready before we got there.....fun but lots of work. In San Francisco, we found this site where we bought a tour and loaded it on to our iPods. It came with a PDF file that had a map and a sheet that showed how to get from one stop to another. It was soooo much esier than doing all the research and kept us off the bus tours too. I spent $20 for a half day tour for four people. It was very cool. The site is www.citystorywalks.com. I think ... read more

Ok today was my 24th birthday and I had a really nice day. As we couldn’t get to Alcatraz yesterday we went this morning. So caught the tram down to pier 33 and jumped on board the ferry to Alcatraz. Alcatraz is a small island situated about 2k's off San Fran and was used as a prison from 1930's to 1960's. We did a tour of the prison with a set of head phones on which was interesting as they walked you through the prison explaining what was what and what happened where. It was hard to imagine that we were standing in the same places as these criminals 40 yrs ago, Their ceils were tiny and consisted of a toilet, sink and a wire bed- not much fun. They explained how people tried to escape ... read more

Wednesday 4th Jan we left Vegas at 9am, got to airport 2 hrs early for flight at 11.30am. Didn’t take long to get through so alot of waiting around. Arrived in San Fran at 1pm and waiting another hour and a half for our luggage and to get to our hotel. We finally arrived at our hotel, checked in and went for a walk. The hotel looked very fancy with statues and marble but when we got up to our room it’s just your standard room. So we went for a walk and it took a block to find someone with a full set of teeth! I think we are in a dodgy area. But once we got passed that part all was fine! Had a look around there Westfield shops- 8 levels! But the levels ... read more

Jimmie and I were planning on going back to L.A. today and stay with Kelci until Jimmie flies out on the 8th, but Kelci called and said she was going to Big Bear to snowboard for the weekend. We decided to call City Center Hostel and see if they had a private room available for the night, then go to Shay’s Saturday and head to L.A. Sunday for Jim to fly out Monday. I thought I wasn’t going to see SF on this trip and I wasn’t that concerned, but as we got closer to the city, I was really looking forward to spending a night there. We stopped at Mavericks (big waves) on the way. I LOVE San Francisco. Northern California really. There is just so much there and it is so beautiful. Luckily, the ... read more

The last time I was in San Francisco was on a females-only-family-trip almost 2 decades ago. It was Mom, Aunty Molly, Big Sister, Middle Sister and me - quelle nightmare - picture The Joy Luck Club on amphetamines :p Mom the Chanel-clad tour-Nazi totally in competition with her spinster banker sister Aunty Molly who lived in Canada which naturally made her the SF expert - both of them nostalgically waxing lyrical about their peeps in Chinatown; whilst the 3 of us just rolled our eyes wanting to head back south to Disneyland, Marilyn Monroe's prints at Mann's Chinese Theatre and Tex-Mex. Yeah - that was one for the family albums!!! :) This time we were spending Christmas with Almost Spouse's family - well actually just his Little Bro - who was spending 6 months learning aikido ... read more
