So, after 2 days on the road, we finally get back in the car and drive from Monterey Bay to San Fran which is only a 2 hour drive now. We stop off at a fruit and veg place by the side of the road and I finally find where they sell all kinds of things! There is every kind of fruit and veg, as well as dried fruit too! We buy some dried mango and kiwi, just because! As well as some artichokes, sweetcorn, asparagus, kiwis, cherries, strawberries, almonds, avocado and some salad. Never thought I'd crave fresh fruit and veg so much! We devour the strawberries in seconds in the car and eat the avocado on the way too.
Finally get to San Fran around 5pm, go to the apartment and book into the airbnb apartment that we have booked in Japantown. The guy isn't quite ready for us and asks if we are ok sleeping on a mattress to which i say um no!! So he offers us his room with on suite bathroom instead! It's a bigger bed and a bigger room and so we take that instead. It has huge floor to ceiling
windows that look out across San Fran. We chill for bit and then decide to take a look around and get some food. Drive to look at Chintown and then down to the financial district and down to Bay Bridge before hitting Fishermans wharf. There are loads of piers where all the big boats come in. We stop further up by pier 39 and park the car and take a walk up the pier. There are loads of places to eat and we pick a restaurant at the end of the pier upstairs which looks nice. We get chatting with the waiter and he tells us
That he follows English football and what a result with Leeds! Hugh quickly asks if he means Leicester and he says yes, seems Leicester have stolen the Premiership title! So we look it up and read up and tell the waiter a few things about English football. The meal is nice enough, but not as nice as the night before and just as costly! An as for Californian wine? Definitely not a fan! Their decently priced wine is horrid and I'm sick of drinking it!
We head out the restaurant and down to the end of the pier and all of a sudden we hear a lot of barking and realise we can hear seals! So we head towards the sound and sure enough there are loads of seals everywhere! We count the decks they are sitting on and how many on one deck and estimate there are around 400 seals here! As well as those still in the water, we stand and watch for a bit and most of the noise is coming from younger seals trying to vie for a spot and be top dog!
Get back to the apartment and quickly fall asleep! We are both shattered every night!
