Hugh has to work in the morning and so we chill for a bit, he moves the car at 11am because we only get 2 hours parking and we leave the apartment around 12.30 to go out, but we have not just one parking ticket but two! One for parking in residential overtime and one for parking on grades! What the hell is that. Ask the concierge and she says you can't just move the car round the corner, it has to be at least a block away, but no one knows what parking on grades is!
I look up parking in the centre and find a parking place for $18 a day. Wasn't expecting that expense! We get lunch at a little jacket potato place and fill up on jacket with prawns and salad. Yummy! And not a burger in sight!
We pop by to see the seals in the daytime and there are just as many and they are just as noisy! Stand and watch them fight and bark for a bit before heading down.
We walk down to the ferry landing for Alcatraz which is further down at pier
33 and the only place you can get the ferry to the island. There are lots of cruises that go passed the island, but this is the only one to stop and let you off! But as we get there, they are full for the day and not selling anymore tickets! My little face drops and Hugh gives me a big cuddle and tells me we will book it and come back tomorrow.
So we decide to go for a bike ride instead and hire a couple of bikes at pier 39 and ride over to the bridge, along with 300 other tourist all doing the same thing! It seems like a good idea at the time, but it takes forever and the hills are a killer! I can not do the one beside the bridge so Hugh cycles up and i walk it, only to be overtaken by a 7 year old who stands and grins and he cycles passed with ease. Hugh is sitting at the top waiting for me so we sit for a minute and recover. And now for the bridge. Wow is it high! OMG high! So I cycle along saying to
myself, don't look down, don't look down! We reach the other side and then have the cycle down a really steep hill. I come to the conclusion i hate hills and don't like going down on the bike very fast! I love the speed in the car, but hate it on the bike! We cycle down and go through Sausalito, a very posh little town the other side of the bay. Get the ferry back because both of us realise the cycle back will be a hard one and we bottle it!
We get back to the apartment and do a 15 minute turn around before meeting Matt, Mike, Jeff & Matts girlfriend Violet, who we met at Coachella, for dinner. They take us to a local sushi place and we have a bento box. It is huge and only $10! The food is far better than we have been getting and really nice to have proper food for a change! We laugh all night and tell the boys about our exploits and adventures and they tell us that their car got broken into and the awesome tent they had got stolen! It was a
great pop up tent and needed no assembly, so gutted for them! We go to a great little bar playing country music and drink for a bit before they have to go as they all have work in the morning. Was so lovely to see them again and hopefully we will meet again one day!
