OMG!!! After looking at the slip of paper that Naomi was given by US Airways in Long Beach, and based on what they told her, we parked in Terminal 1 for US Airways. We made it to the ticket counter and handed the man behind the counter the paper. He took one look at it and said that we were at the wrong airline! Two letters, UA, were printed near the top and that is where we should be. So I asked where is United Airlines terminal. He replied that it was in Terminal 6 on the other side of the airport. Since I had already parked my car, he said that we could take the airport shutttle that loops around the airport. So we head outstide to wait about 10 minutes to take the shuttle to Terminal 6. We confirmed with the bus driver that we needed to go to United and she said Terminal 6. After getting a seat in the back, we spoke to a family from Florida who where on their way to live with their dad in Australia. Very cute kids. The bus driver called out Terminal 6 and United Alligiant and United Emerant.
We got off, but soon discovered that this was a United Airlines terminal but for international travel not domestic! We should have gotten off at Terminal 7! So Naomi and I did a fast pace walk to the next terminal. Once inside we had to stand in the line that required a person to help us and not self check since our paper had no bar code. Finally after 30 minutes we get to the ticket counter. Naomi got her tickets, but after I had to pay $25 again for a baggage check (I had paid in Long Beach but since that was a different airline, it wouldnt transfer-I'll have to contact US Airways to get my refund), and since it was a direct flight and Naomi's knees were hurting, I paid $69 for her to have a seat with extra leg space. Then the lady at the ticket counter told us to take the elevator to our left up to the next level to the security check point. So we took the elevator and the minute we stepped off, a TSA guard told us to go back down since they closed at 9:50 p.m. (It was 9:53), He pointed
to the long line at the other end of the ticketing area where Naomi will need to go for security screening. So back down the elevator and I went back to the ticketing lady to tell her it was close. I didnt stop for her comment, but Naomi said that the lady repeated that it WAS open. Naomi restated that it wasnt and continued to follow me. I hugged her goodbye and sent her on through the security check point. Once I got outside, one could see the security line through the windows. One xray screening could also be viewed of people's items that were scanneed. (Not very secure if any one can see that). I watched Naomi go through the screening arch, and she got stopped. They had a female TSA guard swipe her hands to check for explosive residue. I snapped a few pics, but Naomi didnt see me watching her. She headed up the escalator and was gone. I then headed back to the bus stop to catch the bus back to Terminal 1 so I can get in my car and get out of LAX. She called about 10 minutes later to let me know that
she made it to her gate in time. I told her that I saw her get stopped and exlained to her what they were looking for. What a day!! Just as the whole trip was one adventure after another so was our last day. Everyday that we traveled we didnt know what would be seen or done, but we knew that it would be interesting or if not interesting, at least we did it together. I asked Naomi what was her favorite part, beside Colma, and she enjoyed all of it, including seeing the Harry Potter film. I said besides the buffalo encounter at Yellowstone, I enjoyed spending time with her. Two years of waiting for this trip and now its over. A little sad but what memories she and I now have that we made together.
