Today we visted Occidental College in Los Angles and Claremont McKenna in in Claremont. We had scheduled tours and information sessions for both schools, combined, it took about 5 hours. Occidental was pretty bland but the campus was nice. Claremont McKenna was very cool. We learned a lot about the history of the Claremont College Consortium and the formation of all the colleges that make up the consortium. The town of Claremont is actually pretty nice but it was pretty hot. After the tours we went back to Ana's house in Lake Arrowhead (actually it's located in a town called Twin Peaks!) we hung out wth Ana's friends and family and played a game called Rummikub - we weren't good enough to win any hands but it was a lot of fun! We've got a long ... read more

We said goodbye to Oakland today and departed for Lake Arrowhead via Sequoia National Park. There were tons of people at Sequoia so we didn't stay long. We arrived at Ana Passaseo's vacation house around 8pm. Tomorrow we'll be touring Occidental College and Claremont McKenna College. ... read more

April 22nd This morning Dad and I woke up at a decent hour to get some last minute shopping of mine done. I needed to get some batteries for the trip, as well as an external hard drive. Nothing too exciting, until lunch time. We went down the street from the apartment and ate what Dad called “Hospital Thai”. This is the nickname he gave the restaurant because it is right by the hospital, as well it is only open for lunch and lots of the Kaiser Permanente employees eat there. After a delicious lunch I made my way to Union Station to get the Metrolink to San Bernardino. That’s where Lerina picked me up before we made the drive “up the mountain” to Lake Arrowhead. That’s how awesome she is, she’ll come down the mountain ... read more

Thank you Lord for a safe trip back to Cali! Our flights back home were uneventful, other than DJ almost getting detained in Bogota, Colombia for not claiming his back pack at one of the multiple security check points (he was having trouble understanding spanish or englis for that matter, he obviously needs more spanish classes!). Good news was that Breana made it back without getting sick and enjoyed the roller coaster ride. Landed safely at LAX at 7:41pm, retrieved all of our luggage, and cleared customs by 8:30. Morris picked us up and treated us to In & Out burgers (sorry Joel, the camera was in the trunk). We were welcomed back on the mountain by drizzle and thick fog in 35 degree temperatures, weather kind of like Quito (we miss our Canoa weather already!). ... read more

Beginning: The point before which there is nothing -Aristotle This trip has no beginning. I could say it begins when I leave Lake Arrowhead in the morning, or it could have been when I left West LA a few days ago. Really though, this trip is an extension of years of wanderlust combined with education and chance. A chance to simultaneously observe and participate in ways of life, to transcend parallels on a map. My name is Kevin. I am a location consultant of sorts. I will make a thorough visit to dozens of states in the coming months. My associate, for now, is Brad. My first states are Kentucky, West Virginia, and Tennessee. Check this back very soon for good stories and photos. ... read more

This past weekend I went up to the mountains outside of Los Angeles, specifically to Lake Arrowhead. I've been checking out the Sunday night church service at Christian Assembly in Eagle Rock recently. They had their young adults retreat this past weekend and I thought it would be a great opportunity to connect with other young adults at the church and spend some time with God. I had met a few people at the Sunday night services but didn't know anybody well. So off I went on Friday afternoon, carpooling with a couple of others. The retreat was held at a facility in Twin Peaks, owned & operated by Calvary Chapel. What a great weekend for heading up to the mountains. The weather was perfect. Sunny skies, temperature in the high 60's. I roomed with 4 ... read more
