Betatakin ruins as seen from Sandal Trail
I really despise driving all night. It wasn't bad from 5-7, but boy am I tired. It doesn't help that it's so dry down here that my eyes feel like sandpaper. (Now I remember why I don't want to live here).

We decided to take a slightly different route through northern Arizona to drive through Monument Valley. We had planned to pull in and pay to do the self-guided tour, but saw many formations from our drive on 163 and decided not to. It would've been nice to have the map beforehand to be able to identify the monuments, but it was still impressive. The sun was in a weird place, though, so the pictures aren't fabulous.

We also decided to stop at Navajo National Monument, just off 160. The guidebook mentioned two ranger-led tours, which we tend not to do for the sake of other visitors. One was 17 miles anyway, which we're not exactly up for. Fortunately, there is also a 1 mile round trip path out to an overlook of the Betatakin dwellings. The boys were up for it, it wasn't quite 100 degrees yet and so we all took a stroll. Liam didn't want to

hold my hand and Cole didn't want to stay near Jeff, but it was a nice break in the drive.

We're now in at FireSky Resort in Scottsdale. There's a lovely pool area that we'll have to try. The conference is a short walk away. It's 6:30 here and we're going to bed.

Oh, I forgot to mention the excitement on the drive. Shortly after 3, Jeff saw a wolf cross the road in front of him. We are still waiting to take a great photo of a wolf. Obviously, it wasn't going to happen in the dark while driving. I almost wish I had been awake.

The other excitement was the car rolling 200,000 miles. It's been in all 48 contiguous states since we took delivery in August 2003.
