Exactly three weeks from today we will be boarding a plane heading east and will continue on this eastward bound journey (zig-zagging through the northern and southern hemispheres) until we have made it full circle, home again. A lot of progress has been made since our last blog. The biggest hurdle being Bryan’s home sale. We were stressed for a bit, because there was no activity on it for a little over a month, but in the sixth week there were several people through and an offer made. I would say things have gone smoothly as far as the sale is concerned. Marina told me not to get excited until he has check in hand and has handed over the keys. I guess my little teenager has learned a thing or two about counting your eggs ... read more

Yes, Jim and I did buy a house. One we think meets our needs very well. The closing was April 19th, and so much has happened since then! We think we got a good deal, as we knew all of the prices and houses available. Covering the area via bicycle was a big help. We didn't miss much. Our address in Green Valley is: 749 W. Rio Altar, Green Valley, Arizona, 85614 We still have the same cell phone numbers. Our plan is to live 6 months in Pittsburgh, and 6 months in Arizona. We have been drawn into this all because it just seems like a good place to be at this stage of our lives. This is a way to move ahead, living well now and looking forward to the future. And just think, ... read more

Today I took a break from hiking and had planned a morning at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, which is located about 15 minutes west of downtown Tucson. Its a privately owned facility that is a combination zoo desert garden, and museum. Let me first get my negative impressions of the place out of the way. First, some of the displays contained fake items. For instance, there were some "manufactured" fossils and even though they were displayed as such, it was somewhat disappointing. Luckily most of the displays were real such as the gem stones and the really, really, really old rocks. Secondly, many of the displays containing the wild animals were not large enough. For instance in an area there were 2 wolves and both were just pacing around their area in a circular pattern...over and ... read more

Welcome Friends, Family, Co-Workers, Students, and the random Blog-Reader that happens into this blog, to our first blog entry regarding Bryan's and Sara's Round-the-World trip. I thought I would begin blogging now to chronicle the journey we are already on in trying to prepare for this event. It is a surreal experience to plan a venture into the unknown; leaving all loved ones, belongings, and careers behind in order to circumnavigate the globe; not knowing exactly where we'll go or how we'll get there. The big plan is to travel Europe, Africa, Asia/Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, the Cook Is., South America and Mexico. With a couple of months 'till take-off there are some moments that bring it all into reality: * Talking over our big idea of a RTW trip with my teenage daughter, Marina * ... read more

How about The Green Valley Senior Olympics ???? Jim and I practiced table tennis daily until we were "pretty good" (we thought). The morning of competition arrived and after watching the life-long experts slam and spin the balls to each other in the singles matches, we realized we were outclassed! So we "chickened out" of the doubles. In biking, Jim did the 30 mile competitive ride, coming in near the end of about 20 seasoned riders. This was very good considering they were riding racing road bikes as light as a feather and he was on a hybrid. I, on the otherhand, decided to do the "fun ride". It was kind of fun because I rode along with the competitive riders coming down the hill into town. If I had finished the competitive 30 miler, I ... read more

Hi All, Today is Wednesday, the 16th. It was about a week ago that I wrote the first entry. We've had better weather since then. Today Larry and I visited the San Xavier Mission again. We took time to explore the museum, walk up the hill, and really enjoy the 300 year-old Spanish Mission. It is awesome. Today has been a banner day for seeing Road Runners also. There were two around the resort this am, and then one at the mission that I swear was posing for photos, asking us if he got his good side. We also visited a casino and a copper mine today. You notice I'm not bragging about my winnings. :) Yesterday Fran, Lee, Larry and I hiked in Sabino Canyon, it is located in a state park. We had perfect ... read more

First try at this Hi to you all, I have been wanting to explore the world of "blogs" so thought I'd try a travelblog on this trip. I hope this works, and you can see it. This will be fairly short. Larry & I left last Wed. the first, as most of you know. We seem to have brought the bad weather with us, as we had snow and horrendous rain in California, and now we're having cold, windy weather in Arizona. Good thing we brought clothes for Missy's house along with us. We have been having a great time. We went to Nogales, Tubac and the mission at San Xavier. Tuesday we went to the AZ-Sonora Museum. Wednesday we shopped, and Thursday we visited the Karchener Caverns and an old copper mining town, Bisbee. Today ... read more

A-h-h-h February! In sun and warmth we have been bicycling around Green Valley, Arizona. With temps in the high 60's and 70's we bike to the stores, library, recreation centers, etc. Family and friends have been visiting. January ended with a surprisingly warm and sunny journey west. After stopping in Columbus for lunch with (Jim's daughter and granddaughter)Karen and Sarah, we watched 5 beautiful sunsets (mostly shining right in our eyes as the sun moved towards the western horizon). We stopped at the capital of the Navajo Nation, and Canyon De Chelley and then proceeded down Rt. 77, a little traveled route through the mountains to Tucson and Rt. 10. We arrived in Green Valley on February 2nd. Green Valley, as all of Arizona, is having a drought this winter. The Santa Rita Mountians, overlooking the ... read more
