With my sister visiting from Uganda, we decided to go on the Stage Coach Ride to get a summary history of the town.Tourists flock there by the thousands to praise the murderers more than to pay homage to those whose lives were so brutally taken. What stroke me as peculiar when I first visited Tombstone, was the fact that the whole down is built around this one main street. Since I had visited the town previously, I decided my sister should get to know the history of the town; riding on the old Butterfield Stage Coach ridden by the giant Clydesdale horses took us into the past. The ride took us through the town, highlighting the main buildings and areas of interest. Of course you do not have to go on this ride if history is ... read more

Had a really nice lie in until the handle on our door was tried, a little unerving to say the least but for some strange reason the night before I put a chair under the handle to be on the safe side, as you do with every place you stay at.....lol We decided that there wasn't enough to do in Tombstone to warrant a 3 night stay so we re-arranged our flight back to Las Vegas that evening. So that gave us 9 hrs to see everything in Tombstone, Including the re-inactment of the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral which was excellent. Tombstone is a great palce to go, but only really for a day or two. One of the amusing signs on most of the shop windows was No Guns Allowed....we thought it was a ... read more

Tombstone Silver and Gold? Or “Girl, you’re sitting on a Gold Mine” Tombstone; known for silver mines, gunfights and outlaws, is a must if you are visiting the Southwest. It is reminiscent of a cowboy Williamsburg (Anyone from the east will recognize what I am talking about). Folks are walking about in period regalia; black dusters with double holsters, bustier, scarf wrapped hips with feathered boas. Gunfights in the streets and stagecoaches abound. We stayed at the Wells Fargo RV Park, a marvelous place; tight spaces but only one block from the historic district. If you don’t tow or even if you do, this RV park is perfect, as you can walk right over to the action. The folks are real nice and provide you good information on places to eat and visit. We had excellent ... read more

Yes, very funny... It's all about food... Now it may look like all we're doing is eating, especially junk food. But actually we are just having one warm meal a day, if at all. Mostly we are living off apples, nuts and other healthy snacks on the road. But now and then, especially after long and exhausting sightseeing walks like NY in a day, we just need something to stick our teeth into! Problem is, mostly all you can get in America that is eatable and affordable is junk food. We were in Tombstone on the 17th. We arrived early and had seen everything by 3pm. It was interesting but quite Disney Land like. We saw the old silver mine that had made the city rich, the bird cage theater and all the sights. Olly didn't ... read more

Hello from southeast Arizona. It is cold here still. It will be down in the teens tonight. Anyway, we got up and drove to Bisbee first. It is a neat historical town that started as a mining camp. Pretty high elevation of about 5200 feet. Kind of a hippy town with alot of coffee and antique shops. From there we went back north to Tombstone, also one that started as a mining camp but of course most famous for the gunfight that occurred on October 26th, 1881 between the Earp's and four of the "cowboys" who lost. It is also a tourist trap but fun. We saw a re-enactment of the gunfight which they do daily. We also saw the actual site of the fight which was in a space the size of a 2 ... read more

Memorial Day weekend 2008. The weekend that I was coming home to see family, and take a walk down Memory Lane. An event that I was very much looking forward to, and the chance to see some family members that I hadn't seen since the mid 1980's. In our family, we have this standing joke "the family gets together for weddings and funerals". Thankfully, this weekend, wasn't either! My plane landed at Tucson International Airport. I had rented a convertible, and was looking forward to driving around in it with the top down. I was shocked to see that it was raining, it doesn't rain often in the desert. As I got off the plane, I couldn't believe how chilly the temps were, a high in the mid 60's! So much for riding around topless that ... read more

Posted by: Onaxthiel: Due to Obfuscator's constant complaints about how early I was making him wake up, I let him sleep in this morning until 6:00. He still whines. There is just no pleasing some people. So while he continued to snore, I went off and grabbed some shots of the sunrise and local flora. The campground was fairly full, but thankfully most snow birds are retired and therefore sleep like Obfuscator. He finally woke up and we were able to get underway before the other travelers began to stir. This is fortunate, since people driving an RV in a national park invariably become road blocks that are nigh unassailable on two lane back roads. We arrived at the park visitors center about a half hour before it opened and a ranger who was just arriving ... read more

Two completely opposite tourist traps, that were both a lot of fun. First, we went to the town of Tombstone where the famous gunfight took place and Wyatt Earp was the only man who walked away unharmed. We walked around the little town, where even the Bank of America was built with old-fashioned wooden teller counters. There were lots of junk shops, and plently of natives in wild west garb trying to lure us into this or that saloon for gunfights and beer. We settled on Big Nose Kate's Saloon, had some lunch complete with entertainment, and went the the OK Corral to check out the museum and the reenactment. Oh, the reenactment. It was so painfully terrible it was funny. We had hoped for a bunch of costumed cowboys and sherrifs dramatically reenacting the ... read more

So April has arrived, and with it our first vistors to the new house. Wayne, Steph and Thomas stayed with us for 4 days at the beginning of the month. They drove down to us from Vegas and left us to head on to LA for a week of theme parks! After a day relaxing by the pool, we took them to Tombstone for a day out - thought Thomas might enjoy 'cowboy country'. As we mentioned in a previous blog entry, Tombstone is the site of the famous gunfight at the OK Corral and is a fun place to visit (especially if you are an 8 yr old we were hoping!) We also paid a visit to Boot Hill, the famous old graveyard which is more fun that it should be, mainly due to ... read more
