Feeling "Centered" in Sedona North America » United States » Arizona » Sedona By 4RoyceJune 22nd 2007 We are feeling a real sense of both calmness and energy here in Sedona. New age-type folks gather to the area for what they believe are its healing and centering qualities. Personally, I believe it is the natural beauty of the Red Rocks and the Canyons which surround us. Mark believes that we are feeling relaxed from a forced break. Millie needs a new starter and we can't get her fixed until sometime tomorrow or Sunday. Fortunately, a rental car was available and we spent the day exploring. One of... read more

Elliot (the poison ivy getting better thanks to Dr. Mike) wakes up just as I'm trying to fall asleep. He is thrashing with pain and for the next two hours has all of the symptoms of a migrane-type headache. Pain so bad that I was near tears and quite a bit of throwing up. Perhaps a reaction to the altitude or medication. All this in an RV -- parked outside of our free spirit friend Hazel's bachelor apartment -- that had no electricity or water at the time. We were jumping over Kevin to get to the bathroom and trying not to wake Mark since we were leaving at 5 a.m. We got on the road only to discover that the fridge was on the wrong setting and a lot of the food ruined and ... read more

The second weekend in February my good friends Miky and Maggie Gedebou invited Megan and Matt Dean and myself for a reunion weekend in Sedona. The Gedebous, visiting from Maryland, were returning to Sedona for the first time since their marriage in August 2003. It was the first weekend get-away for the couple since the birth of their second child and it was also the first opportunity since the Dean’s wedding in 2005 for all of us to spend quality time together. Per usual, I experienced a delay on my American Airlines flight from Washington, DC. I arrived in Phoenix tired and approximately two hours late but confident I would arrive in Sedona for dinner. I followed MapQuest directions because I had not driven to Sedona for several years and did not want to try to ... read more

Seufer6: Destination: Globe and Sedona, Arizona Monday, February 5, 2007 Bisbee, Arizona proved to be a unique, interesting and fun little town. After our amazingly informative Queen Mine tour, it was after 2:00pm and we needed to get the motorhome packed up, on the road and to a campground by dark. On to the I-80, then onto the I-10 through Tucson, onto to I-77, north we were heading toward Sedona. Since it was getting late, we knew we would never make it all the way, so we decided to stop in a small town along the way for a quick dinner, then to find a campground. None to be found in this small town, so off we went another hours drive into the town of Globe. It was pitch black when we pulled the motorhome into ... read more

Hello everyone To celebrate our 3rd Anniversary this week we treated ourselves to a night away in Sedona, a beautiful town 2 hrs north of us in Red Rock country. Sedona is famed as a retreat for artists and mystics! For those who believe in such things, the area contains a number of Vortex (not sure of the plural!), and the Red Rocks are known as Healing Rocks... I'll leave you to make up your own minds! But the countryside is amazing; canyons, red rocks and rocky outcrops surround the town. We stayed in a beautiful small little Hacienda hotel called El Portal - www.elportalsedona.com (Room 4 if you look at their website!). Pretty expensive, but not only was it our anniversary, but also our Christmas Present to each other, so why not! We drove up ... read more

I just left Bucknell yesterday, and after the shortest of all of my trips back and forth, between PA and AZ, I arrived home sweet home last night. All I wanted to do when I got home was have one solid day of doing absolutely nothing, aka never leaving my bed, maybe for a snack or to go to the gym for a bit, but all I wanted to do was stay in bed all day and stare at the wall, think, or read a book. But since I never pass up an opportunity for an adventure/hiking, I decided to go with my dad and Gus to Sedona. We hiked the Oak Creek Canyon, which follows the Oak Creek for about 3 miles until it reaches a potion where you either have to hike in the ... read more

We arrived at the hotel in Flagstaff around midnight on Friday and arose at 7:00 am for the first day of our weekend trip. We took a drive down 89A enjoying the light traffic of the early morning. Passing by the Oak Creek Canyon scenic viewpoint we descended the many switchbacks to the bottom of the canyon. We drove on through to Sedona where we stopped at a Basha's to try and find something to eat. Watching what we are eating we settled upon a box of breakfast bars that did little to satisfy my hunger. Heading back into the canyon we stopped at Slide Rock State Park where we walked along the short paved path but were disappointed to find we could not descend to the creek with our dog. Instead we walked along the ... read more

Sedona Sky Harbor Airport is HUGE, as we found out on the Thursday night when we went to collect Lyn and Jeremy!! Eventually we found the right place to meet them and were greeted with hugs and gifts of NZ food!!! (Cant survive for long without the vogals and light ‘n’ tasty!) The Arizona monsoon season did its thing with a small electrical storm as we drove North. After a 2 hour drive we were in Sedona. We had chosen to stay here rather than Phoenix as Sedona is far prettier (it is known as one of the prettiest spots in the state). A couple of months back we had driven through Sedona on our way into Phoenix but couldnt stay and look around as there was no where to park with the trailer! So we ... read more

That's what I heard one Park Ranger say to another as I walked to Slide Rock with my friend Sebastian earlier today. It sounds a little unusual if you've never been to Slide Rock before, but if you have, you know exactly what they mean. Worn smooth by untold ages of flowing water and slick with algae, the area could just as well be called Slip Rock. You could be walking, running, standing still, kneeling, squatting, crab-walking, doing leaping handsprings... I don't care what you're doing, at some point, you're going to slip and fall and if a flailing arm/leg/other apparatus fails to halt your fall, your head inevitably will. Hence the busted heads. If you're not bleeding profusely from the face, however, Slide Rock can be a very enjoyable place! And if you're not a ... read more

Psychologist Kay Vogt held a workshop in her beautiful home and retreat center in Sedona, Arizona, In August, 2006. A group of about ten people worked and processed together from noon Saturday until noon on Monday, with time out for dawn hikes in the glorious red rocks and good food. With Kay's intuitive and insightful leadership the weekend was a wonderful experience for all of the participants. But best of all, I got to finally come to that mystical, magical place, Sedona, which I have only imagined for so many years. Making the experience even more enjoyable was the invitation of my friends Sybil and Henry Melody to come down a day early and spend a day with them exploring heir charming home and the hills of Jerome, across the Verde Valley from Sedona. Their all ... read more
