So let's face it, if you don't play golf, or if your golf bag have been rusting at home for most of 2007, or if you are more lately into backpacking than checking the latest luxuries, this entry won't interest you. After a great time in Orlando, it was time for my early morning flight to Phoenix, Arizona. I came here 4 days last year...and yes, Scottsdale is a true Mecca for golf... So rent my usual Mustang...it never rains here, so great music and convertible are the perfect mix to move around. Stayed at the Phoenician (14th on Conde Nast Traveller US resorts this year) with the usual nice upgrade, but who cares, as I was there to play golf. So nice hotel, the opportunity also to try the latest Asia de Cuba restaurant at ... read more

Once again, our conferences would not be complete without one of our famous dine-arounds - for those of you that aren't familiar with this little activity, it's when we work in conjunction with our host firm to choose a series of restaurants and make reservations for 10-12 people at each. It's a great way for people to network with a different group and to get a real flavor for the local city. However, it's an organizational nightmare for me and always proves to be the biggest headache of any conference. But the delegates love it, so we have them a lot. In Scottsdale, we'd arranged for reservations at eight restaurants, including Wildfish - the report I heard back from two rather conservative gentlemen attending this restaurant was that it was full of 5'9" blonde women in ... read more

There is something to be said for having meetings in a beautiful location, because it's hard to get down about having lawyerly discussions when you walk along a peaceful path along a brook to get to them. So although I wasn't raring to go this morning, I did enjoy wandering along by the TPC Stadium Golf Course (yes a PGA course) and by the water of the resort first thing. With breakfast outside the meeting rooms, overlooking the golf course, you just can't complain. The meetings went well this morning, and then it was off to change into my horse ridin' gear. Half of our group would be going out in hummers for a desert tour, and 21 of the bravest opted for a half hour bus ride so that we could ride horses through the ... read more

For a change, I was able to ease into day one of the conference. I spent the morning lingering in my room, resting, reading and catching up on my blogging before getting ready for everyone's favorite conference activity, the Board Meeting! We held the meeting at the hotel, in one of the Master Parlors, essentially a very fancy guest room (but no fireplace - I am keeping that to myself and just keep "complaining" about how far away my room is so they don't catch on!). It went as usual, but I can say that the vegetable soup I had for lunch was pretty good even if I still wasn't too hungry. Our reception and dinner this evening was to begin at 6pm, so I had another couple of hours to relax by the fire and ... read more

Nothing like a brutal migraine to start off my trip to Arizona. So I was eternally grateful on Tuesday evening to finally be off the plane, out of our taxi and here at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. I would certainly consider it more of a resort than a hotel, with my room being in one of the several "casitas" at the edge of the property. Though it sounds far away, it's only about a five minute walk to the lobby and the room (or rooms, I should say) certainly make up for it. I have a huge living room, complete with a fireplace, dining table and sitting area with a pull-out couch. My bedroom has two double beds, with lovely and soft pillowtop mattresses and a huge bathroom boasting a walk-in closet. I marvalled at all ... read more
