We saw some cave pueblo dwellings, Santa Fe highlights and, finally, Chako Canyon on Sunday and proceeded to Gallup, New Mexico by way of a dirt road that said "Proceed at your own risk". Gallup was in a kind of depressed state and left us feeling that it might be time to go home, but we decided to chase the sun back to Phoenix by way of Sedona. Sedona is in an absolutely breathtaking setting but was very crowded due to spring break, so we continued and found a place in Phoenix. I talked Susan into seeing "Watchmen" and it was a near-death experience for her. Then we changed over to a nice place with a great pool for two days and are planning to wind up in Palm Springs for our last 3 days in ... read more

'Ello all. I'm travelling in the US at the moment, in Phoenix Arizona. Work has sent me here on business, dragging me kicking and screaming away from the beach volleyball courts on Manly beach. How will I survive? It will be tough............but maybe you can help? After Phoenix, I head to the godforsaken places that are Calgary and Fort McMurray (I've bought my ski jacket and hat) then Toroto, NY and London. By the time I hit London on the morning of Friday 21st, I will be in serious withdrawl symptoms. Sand, sunshine and weekends spent in my boardshorts will be swapped for rain, cold, and miserable people either sacked or waiting to be sacked. However, maybe collectively we can drown our collective sorrows, and maybe, just maybe, a Phoenix can arise from the ashes of ... read more

Finishing packing up all of my stuff in Tempe and moving them into storage at my brother's house. I'm totally procrastinating though. Should have been done with this last weekend. The poor guy who is taking my spot must be totally annoyed. Oops, he'll live. Can't believe it is only 19 short days away before I leave for Macedonia for two years with the Peace Corps. I'm excited to get on the ground and see what sort of projects await me. I love the fact that the Peace Corps allows their volunteers to be creative, self motivated, and get involved in secondary and tertiary projects that have nothing to do with their primary jobs. I feel this will allow me to move beyond my field of education and expand into NGO development and/or business. ... read more

The Golden Gate never looked so beautiful... As he crossed the state line and into Arizona, he thought back to his life; what defined him. He thought about his family and how strange it was to now be separated from them. He thought about his mother and how much he misses her smile. He thought about his dad and how much he missed his laugh. He thought about his brother and how much he missed he goofiness. He thought about his older brother and how much he missed the closest thing to a role model he's ever had. He was diving head first into the shallow end of the past. He thought about his home, and how it overlooked one of the most beautiful vineyards he'd ever seen. He thought about home. He thought about all ... read more

Woke up Monday all bunged up and after dropping Keith at the airport and getting some bits for a bbq Monday night I pretty much slept on and off all day. Nige, Joe and my mum spent the day round the pool and in the jacuzzi. Nige cooked the steak we bought - They were absolutely huge then we basically went to bed!! Tuesday - Nige woke up all bunged up! I thought it was going to be a case of 'man flu' but for once he actually recovered quite quick (well it was at least 4 hours of moans and groans!) We spent the morning round the pool again before heading back to the Rubio's the Mexican for lunch. Then it was back to the pool, Nige & Joe mucked around for a couple of ... read more

e i e i o..... Joe and Keith were up early this morning looking for snakes, lizards etc. But only come across a tarantula, and a dead one at that. When Nige got up - Keith drove them down to Macdonalds Farm where he dropped Joe and Nige off for an hours horse riding. There were a few other people there to, and the guide asked if there were any experienced riders, No one spoke up so Nige somehow ended up with the more experienced horse! - called Cowboy. And off on their way they went. Joe led the group behind the guide, and at one point the guide stopped so his horse could get a drink, leaving Joe leading! Joe's horse (Napoleon) then decided to gallop off, Nige panicked but Joe said he had it ... read more

We loaded the car up shortly after we woke, and as we was about to pull off, noticed a note under the wiper. (See pic) to be honest his parking wasn't that bad! We headed out of San Diego at 8am in temperatures of 69F, within an hour it was 25 degrees hotter, We chucked on the stereo and out blasted typical tunes of Dolly and the like! It wasn't long before it reached 104F and it was at this point it got so hot we eventually had to stop and put the roof up, and on went the much needed air con! About 4 hours in, we took a quick toilet/petrol stop and grabbed a quick macdonalds! Just the walk from the car into the Maccy D's was a killer. Another 2 hours later we ... read more

Hun ... read more

February 2004 The main reason anyone ever goes to Arizona is to see the world’s biggest hole in the ground — and that is a mistake if they explore no further, because they’re missing out. Arizona generally seems to mean just one thing to the masses - the Grand Canyon. The world’s biggest and most beautiful hole in the ground pulls in over 5 million visitors a year, who arrive, gasp in awe at the size of that hole in the ground and then leave. We can relate to this, because that’s exactly what we did way back in 1989 when there seemed to be so many other high profile sights to tick off. I suppose we cheated a bit having flown over it in a small 6 seater plane (which is an ideal way to ... read more
