My friends (colleagues in Atlanta) Christine and Sadiha visited us in Tucson for 4 days and we had so much fun. They were so easy to be with. Lola and Ken loved getting to know them. Ken spoiled them with his Barista skills. Lola loved getting up in the morning and joining them in their room. Things I learned about them from living with them, which is always different than just working with them. 1) They both are easy going, flexible-not selfish 2) They both appreciate a GOOD latte 3) They both have patience with young kiddos 4) Sadiha always looks on the bright side of life, she lives it to the fullest always looking for the next adventure 5) Christine has a sweet calm spirit that Lola gravitated to. She wants to learn how to ... read more

I woke up to Henna crawling in my bed. Last night at Uncles we invited them to join us for lattes in the morning. She actually walked to our house. I'm not sure how far it is - maybe 2 miles. It's early, about 7:30. Larry drove over. Ken and Jason are going to install his extra gas tank on his truck and Larry has tools they need to accomplish this, so he is going to help. Everyone got up and we all sat around drinking coffee and chatting. Henna had forgotten her phone at home and I wanted to show Amy her house so we headed over to her house. Amy loved it. After we got back to my house, Larry and Henna left. Amy made her delicious scrambled eggs and I cooked some Applewood ... read more

I'm up pretty early each day. Ken makes my coffee while I work in my pjs. It's quiet here and it's nice to have that...a great working environment. I did have Doctors appointments: Dentist- all is good. Dermatologist: 5 places were zapped with liquid nitrogen! One place (above my lip) has turned bright red; it looks like a cherry red birth mark....nice! Eye Doctor: had to reschedule because I have new insurance but haven't received my cards yet. I have all of the information but when the office tried to call to verify, they were closed (they are Eastern time). Monday night I made a great dinner. Monday night football-The Bengals, the Reds were playing too and Justen was off. I made a small homemade pizza appetizer, Grilled French Cut pork chops, Smashed cauliflower, twice baked ... read more

We slept in, then had coffee on the front porch. We had some clean up to do from the party yesterday. Then it was going through more mail! Our next door neighbors invited us over for a drink to catch up. Even though my son lives here, they keep an eye on the house; which is always good. We enjoyed our time with them; we don't see them very often. Afterwards we had dinner at one of our favorite places in Tucson-'Sauce'! We ordered our standard-Pepperoni, Sausage, caramelized onion, mushrooms and red peppers and a Caesar salad. We picked up some lasagna for Justen. Of course we walked next door at 'Frost' for some gelato. Ken always gets chocolate, I got the toasted almond. I wanted to watch some Dexter when we got home, but I ... read more

My flight left Atlanta Thursday night 15 minutes late. They also changed gates 3 times, once to a completely different terminal. I surely got my exercise in. Apparently there was a mechanical issue that could not be fixed, so they found another jet but it came in from Europe so we had to go to the International terminal. The delay was for customs to search the plane. As I walked on the jet, it was freezing inside. I got to my row. I have the window seat and a couple was already in the aisle and middle seat. I noticed they both had fresh clean airline blankets (still in the plastic). I thought wow, I would love one. As I got situated in my seat, I saw an extra one next to the man's bag on ... read more

We had a wonderful Birthday celebration for Henna on Saturday! The menu was homemade everything: deviled eggs, guacamole, salsa, margaritas, chicken enchiladas and yellow cupcakes with buttercream frosting. I know why people are willing to pay $3 a piece for a cupcake! I overfilled the cupcake tins; I made the frosting and attempted to fill these new plastic decorating tubes, so I could make my cupcakes look beautiful. Well, I discovered why I am not a cake decorator. It was frustrating trying to fill the tubes; I ended up using my fingers and a knife. They did taste good. Here are a few pictures.... read more

Today has been very relaxing and very beautiful. I had the best sleep in a very long time last night - straight through with absolutely no work anxiety and no tossing and turning!! The morning started with a workout and cup of coffee. At 6:30 am it was already well into the 90s....but there were plenty of people already playing the golf course. Perhaps to beat the heat. We visited Saguaro National Park, right outside of Tucson. After a very winding drive, we arrived at the park station. Our annual national park pass doesn't expire until September this year - so all the best parts of our vacation are FREE!! Saguaro National Park has an eight mile drive through an amazing cactus forest. Tall saguaros, bright pink cactus pears and a bright, hot sun dominated the ... read more

559 miles down, thanks to my wonderful husband who drove, and drove and drove. We are all settled in to our condo in Oro Valley, Arizona overlooking a beautiful golf course, rock garden and swimming pool. We drove straight into a thunderstorm that was loud but very quick and a big, fat Gecko was waiting in the driveway for us as we unpacked the car. The sun is now up and I am just sitting patiently while Jim smooths his feathers and gets his second wind. I love the desert and had no idea what to expect here in this part of Arizona. It is beautiful and I am looking forward to shooting some photos and exploring a bit while it is still daylight. I'm sure that tonight will be a very early night. I woke ... read more
