What a wonderful weekend!
On Friday I climbed up Mount Cicle which is the highest point in Cooper Landing. I did this with one of my friends. It was such and intense climb and really steep. When we made it to the top it was a cloudy day and we couldn't see anything on one side of the mountain, except for clouds. It was really scary but at the same time very neat to see and experience. On our way down from the top we ran into some mountain goats. There were about 6 of them with one young one. They were right in our way of where we needed to hike. Since we didn't want any sort of encounter with them because they are much more agile on the mountains than we are we tried to scare them off the best we could. It took a while but eventually they ended up going down a very steep side of the mountain which was amazing to see. It is so awesome how these animals have adapted to living on steep cliffs and act like it is nothing. Since there was also plenty of snow still on the mountain we were
able to sled down parts of it which made going down a lot more fun. We didn't use sleds, we just put on our rain gear and went down. This was really intense and it was difficult not to gain a lot of speed, but it was definitly worth it even though I did end up going through a tree. I have never had the experience to sled in the middle of June, but it was so exciting. I have never been sledding on anything so steep and fast before. It has really changed my outlook on how fun and intense sledding can be.
On Saturday I finally got the chance to go on our day rafting trip through the canyon on the upper Kenai River. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. We got to see beautiful scenery and some wildlife. The trip starts up at our lodge and we go down the upper Kenai River for about 10 river miles. At this point we stopped for a wonderful picnic lunch with a little campfire. We then headed back onto the river and through the canyons. The canyons had a little bit more rapids than the other

This is Kelly and I on the top of the mountain with clouds as our background. part of the river. Once through the canyon we ended up in Skilak lake where we were able to motor across to be picked up. On the way we had beautiful scenery of mountains and trees. We also saw many birds including numerous eagles, ducks and baby ducklings, we even saw a bear which was about 20 feet away from us on the shore. Our guide was in the process of telling us a bear encounter she had when one of the guests looked up and saw a black bear right on the shore. As we passed it, the bear stood up as watched us very inquisitively. That was such a great thing to see. We also were able to do a wonderful deed by towing a couple who was on Skilak lake and ran out of gas. But it was beautiful and I think I could spend days on the river and the lake. It is definitly peaceful and calming.
