So last night mos tof the international students ended up at joe´s oyster bar so it was good to finally meet all of them. Everyone was a little more outgoing after having some cerveza. its two for one there, or 4 for 2, so basically 4 beers for about 7 dollars. its funny cause its corona which i think is one of the expensive beers in canada. as soon as you go in all the waiters run up to you and try to get you to sit in there section, not like whitespot at all. its a weird bar because at first its just like a restaurant and then all of sudden people are dancing everywhere. after that we went to fiesta land which is a huge white castle ish thing right on the beach. theres about 5 different bars in there and we went to one called sumbawa i think. it was amazing. you could see the ocean and the waves and theres treehouses up some stairs overlooking the whole bar. it was a good time.
Today four of us from old mazaltna went up to the golden zone where we were supposed to meet up iwith a bunch of people for a booze cruise thing, but apparentlly it was cancelled and no one could get ahold of us. we ended up hanging out at the beach which is much nicer up there than by old mazatlan. i will probably be burnt now but it was worth it. the water is so warm, but its still refreshing because its so damn hot here.
then we caught a taxi back to old mazatlan. it was a little pickup truck with benches in the box so we all squished in and it cost us 8 pesos each, which is about 80 cents canadian. pretty cheap. its funny because all the truck and gold cart pulmonia taxis are pimped out and have music blaring.
this morning i opened the bathroom window and a salamander ran up the wall. i wasn{t really grossed out, just surprised because its the first one i{ve seen so far. i did have an ant in my room last night, but not a normal one, probably one about 50 times the size of that. amazing i know.
anyways, i{m probably boring you with this blog but too bad. tonight were gonna head down to the plaza for some food i think and just hang out there for a while and listen to the music and such. its my favorite place in all of mazatlan so far for sure, besides the beach and the big white castle fiestaland.
i´m feeling a little homesick now mostly because of the language barrier. its getting pretty frustrating and lots of the students know spanish, but the don{t translate all the time so usually i just sit back and wait. yesterday we went and bought cell phones, and i had no idea what was going on. it was a little strange. school starts on monday so i should be able to learn quite a bit in my spanish class hopefully. everything else is great. the people are nice, although everyone knows i{m not from here so its hard to go anywhere without someopne trying to sell you something which is really frustrating as well.
anyways, so far so good here in mazatlan. once i get the language down i should be golden.
buenos tardes.
