When we left Cholula it was a bit of a mystery tour for us. Our destination choice was either Oaxaca (Colonial city and maybe buy a rug,) Veracruz, seaside stop, which sounded attractive for Christmas, or Palenque, jungle ruins and waterfalls. We couldn’t decide. We drove past the turning to Oaxaca, we would visit on the return trip, considered the seaside then realised our overnight stop was (literally) about a hundred yards past the last exit to it, that made the decision for us. It was to be Christmas in the jungle area of Palenque. When we were at Arturo’s we met Yann, a French(ish) guy who lived and worked in Switzerland for twenty years then thought, enough of the corporate world and decided to change his life. He is taking about four years to travel ... read more

"Life is short. Smile while you still have teeth."~ Buenos dias, (Spanish) good morning (English), bonjour, (French) guten morgen (German), zǎoān (Chinese), Kaliméra (Greek), Buongiorno (Italian). Dzień dobry (Polish). See if you hang around with me you will learn things such as how to say good morning in other languages! (PS I apologize if you got this twice. Apparently some of you tried to read it and page was missing so I had to re-publish. :( Thanks for telling me Linda! SABATO (SATURDAY) JAN. 27TH I'm sitting in bed typing with the sliding doors to the balcony open listening to the waves say good morning to me. Good morning little waves. It was a humid night, but windy, and then it started to rain heavy around 5 am, with the rain tap-dancing across the windows. I ... read more

"Life is a journey that must be traveled no matter how bad the road and accommodations". ~ Happy New Year to family & friends including my talented fellow travel bloggers (I appreciate you wasting your precious time reading my blogs! (For those that do, I thank you for your charity work!) I wasn't going to do a blog this trip as I wasn't sure we'd partake in as many adventures i.e. diving, snorkeling, zip lining, para-sailing, swimming in lagoons, visiting coastal towns etc. etc., this time with all that's going on but upon telling some friends this, they balked so here it is. The Land of Beautiful Beaches, Colorful Waters And Margaritas!) We're coming to you live from Playa del Carmen Mexico where I'm back to my old stomping grounds for both work and leisure. My first ever travel adventure with my mother was beautiful from start to finish. We landed in Cancún and drove down to Puerto Aventuras for two nights, then farther south to Mahahual (they pronounce the first h, but the second is silent) for five nights, then north to Tulum for two nights with our final night in Puerto Morelos. It’s hard to fit all the adventures of such a packed trip into one blog, but I’ll try to at least get all the highlights in. Playa del Carmen: Driving our rental car down from Cancún, we only stopped long enough for lunch, and to see what kind of a place Playa del Carmen has become. My parents traveled the area in 1976 and the Isla Mujeres they visited didn’t have hotels or even real restaurants. They ... read more

"I'm not afraid of flying. I'm afraid of NOT flying". ~ For those of you that were sick of hearing about our tropical getaway & that we were enjoying the good life too much ;>, this blog's for you. (Sorry if you received this more than once.) So we gave United Airlines another chance after the mishaps last month with our flights home to say my final good-bye to my Dad who fell ill. They did their best to help us, and upgraded us, so it was worth a chance. (Dear lord...) Flying back to Cancun we got upgraded again & everything went fine except for the head stewardess aka 'Nurse Ratched' (the infamous cold-hearted tyrant nurse from the movie, The One Who Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) who was something else. When I say she ... read more

"Family. An anchor during rough waters". Hoping this blog finds you all well and living the good life wherever you are. Hola Mom! Nice video chatting with you. You're looking great! Life has been treating us kind where we are. We have thoroughly enjoyed 5 solid days of sun here and it is nice to see smiles on the girls faces after a tough stretch. We all arrived safe and sound on Sat., and it was a great reunion with Ray and Pat. We were beat from the feet up after getting up at 2:30 in the morning, catching a flight at 6 am and finally arriving almost 12 hours later. That's what you get when you book last minute. I know, I know - you are not feeling sorry for me at all given where ... read more

"One father is worth more than a hundred schoolmasters". The above quote pretty well sums up my Dad to a T. He was worth more than a hundred schoolmasters to his family and friends. Unfortunately Dad died three days after we rushed home from Mexico. He was surrounded by love those few days he was in the hospital. When my time comes, I'd be honored to be surrounded by my family - the perfect ending of a book. 'The End'. And I hope I leave this world before my kids too. I love the The Winnie the Pooh quote. "If you live to be 100, I want to live to be 100 minus one day, so I never have to live without you." Dad was given a beautiful send-off - folks were lined out the door ... read more

"Nobody on earth can ever love you more than your parents". Unfortunately Al & I had to return home on Saturday after hearing my father was admitted to the hospital in critical condition. It was a heck of a jolt to get that information on Friday. (For those of you who didn't get my two previous blogs due to a glitch, at the top left you can hit previous entry). We spent the day making alternative flight arrangements, while my emotions were on a roller coaster. We had to get home quickly; time was of the essence. Up until Thursday despite some ill health, he was still watching the Blue Jays and taking drives with the family including my cousin Glenn. I knew that something might happen when I was gone, but when you actually hear ... read more

"The bad news is time flies. The good news is you're the pilot". And now, a word from our sponsor. (OK I'm the sponsor, and here's the word!) MONDAY/TUESDAY Hope this blog finds you all well and enjoying the summer weather. We've settled into a routine here even though I was a bit homesick and my mind is on things back home as my Dad has not been feeling the best but he's in darn good hands. (Drop me a line Bar when you can.) The first few days we put our nose to the grindstone taking photos of the condos for the company. Al's new camera equipment has made the photos pop. Monday co-operated & was a bright sunny day & the Caribbean exuded that jaw-dropping myriad of colors that made for perfect travel magazine ... read more

EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT (OR DON'T!) Well, at the last minute Al & I made a run for it. We have gotten the heck out of Dodge as they say - Bonnie & Clyde are on the lam! Normally this time of year we'd already be in Mexico with the family, enjoying some of my work perks but this year due to my dad experiencing some ill health, I didn't want to commit to plans. However, due to a bit of a turnaround and thanks to my wonderful siblings (as well as a few others) who have stepped up to the plate in an amazing way, we were encouraged to make last minute plans. Thank you all SO much. Ahhhh, back to paradise. Bienvendio! Unfortunately by the time we made the decision to go, ... read more
