So Yesterday was for all intense purposes a complete washout i did hardly anything of real note, i had a lie which was great and id imagine it recharged my batterys, but as Lou and her mum had things to do i spent most of the day watching TV or on the internet.
We briefly headed out for lunch and went to another supermarket, so thats four in Mexico City now, however i found out that the local tax office is on the top floor of the supermarket which is a very weird set up, but hey its Mexico and they have bus's running the wrong way in traffic so anything else should be no supprise.......hehe.
Spoke to my girlfriend and shes due to go home on the 23rd March, so no chance of us meeting in Oz, so just need to see how things between us works out?
Yesterday it was fairly cool and i was going round in my shorts and sandals while most Mexicans were in fleeces, they have not experinced the cold we get in the UK then.....lol.
So another day and i managed to rise later than 7 or 7.20am and so
nearly a lie in......lol, breakfast was fruit covered in yogurt as per previous mornings and some toast and a donut and hot flavoured milk again😊, checked my emails and the usual gubbins and decided to wear trousers and no sunblock after yesterdays weather and of course as soon as i got out it was roasting hot, just typical its sod's law in full affect.
So today was posting some postcards, souvenirs home and going to the city zoo, so first was a local bus and then a metro bus which was packed and had chanel no 5 of public transport, yup you guessed it the smell of fresh and stale sweat mixed together it always gives public transport that certain ambience and club that with rude people barging you and treading on your feet and you have just the right atmosphere......lol
We got off at the World trade centre and went in to the Mexican post office and i posted a post card to my sister and my girlfriend, both cards cost 24 pesos which is about 2 an half dollars, which was not to bad as one card is headed to Oz and the other to Canada,
we then started walking up Insurgentes Avenue looking for the UPS office and after walking nearly the whole lenght, well it felt like it!
We then headed back down the Avenue and decided to use DHL, now the items i wanted to post had more of a value as to the fact i got most of them in Central America and they were cheap but would be a bugger to replace and so i had decided to use a parcel company, so all the items had to be checked and various forms filled out which was a total ball ache then they had to go in a DHL box which would add to the weight and then it weighed 700 grams and the cheeeky swine rounded it up to 1kg, so a grand total of 65 dollars to send goods that at most would be worth 40 dollars, so im thinking in south america i will make room for souvniers and in Oz and then post a job lot from Asia. I now have the grand sum of 6 dollars left of my Central America and Mexico budget. I have heard various things as the being a departure tax
from Mexico and then some people saying its included in my onward ticket, but if the is one then its getting paid by my credit card.
So after the DHL fun, me and Lou got the Metro over to Chapultec park and the Mexico City zoo which is free, thats the kind of price i like😊, So the zoo was pretty cool, the usual spread of lions, deer, antalope, giraffes, we took our time going round and i took loads of piccys, im hoping in the vain hope that my photos will get better and that i shall be adept on using my camera.
The were certain areas were you could see nothing and i think the animals were in there beds sheltering from the heat and some were sleeping right out in the main areas. The was an aquatic area and i had to wait about ten mins before a penguin showed and the polar bear was awesome, then the was a sealion who kept darting about then and then finally stopped to pose for photos and then a whole avery area and one eagle was right up close to the cage and me at one stage
which was cool, the aviary was a bit dark some i think some of my pics are a bit lousy, certainly if anyone vists the city then go to the park as the is the zoo and castle and museums, lake and a botanical garden.
The was about 7 Mac Donald stores around the Zoo and so we stopped for ice cream, i had a M&M mcflurry which was nice, although not all that great as im not an avid surporter or fan of Mac Donalds. Eventually we made our way out and took two metros back to the apartment, Tonight i need to see about packing my gear up for my flight to South America tomorrow.
Facts and Figures for this trip so far:- Number of Bus journeys 50 so far, One Tuk Tuk ride in Honduras, 17 Taxi journeys, 3 Flights, Two ferrys, One Rickshaw in Honduras, Two Left hand vehicles driven by me, Roughly 35 car rides, 56 trips on Metro/underground vehicles, One trolley car ride in San Fransico.
3758 miles from my mum and dads house to New York, 2451 miles from New York To LA if you were to fly it,
but i bussed and Amtraked it and did not go straight across and for arguments sake lets round it up to 3000 miles, so thats 6758 miles before i get to Central America, From San Jose to Mexico City is roughly 2000 miles, so so far i have covered 8758 miles and im only two months into my trip. When i get the time i will add the figures up correctly.
So i got back and had lovely home made soup and a spicy veggie dish and then rice pudding with rasins, itslike being at the fourseasons, once i hit South America i can see a downward spiral in cuisine and accomodation......lol, plu Lou's dad is coming back early and is taking me to the airport and by the sounds of it my adopted Mexican family will all be there to see me off, as Lou does not leave for the WRC till late on friday i think.
