Frida Kahlo mural
I am being haunted!!!!Well wake up normal time so this jet lag is definitely beaten - woo woo back to normal or whatever you call normal!
Today we move hotels from the swanky one to meet up with the tour in a different hotel and, as it is a tour for backpackers, I don’t think it will be a swanky one but hey ho as long as it is clean that is the best thing. Also, it will be nice to stay in a different part of Mexico city. Transfer will be by Uber and so far using Ubers has been really efficient and cheap.
If you read yesterday that I thought the hotel shook well we were having breakfast and, guess what, you could see and feel a tremor and you guessed it Mike was there and saw and felt it so I was right the hotel did shake the day before. We have re-packed and realised we have too many clothes and really should have done what we did when we went around the world, get everything we wanted to take a couple of weeks prior and then each week remove stuff - I say I am a savvy traveller but I think I am kidding myself, I think I have got too complacent having some amazing holidays.
So we arrive at the new hotel and it is really quaint and in a different part of Mexico City so really good to be in another part. After going for an exploratory walk and having lunch in a nice Mexican cafe, we meet up with the group and really glad that it is not all students or young people. We thought we might feel like grandparents, but no not on this trip, although we are grandparents so what is the difference! Anyway there are a couple of oldies like us and a middle age couple with their children who I might add are 18 and 21 so not young and a few young ladies so it is a really nice combination of people. The group consists of English, German, Scottish, American, Australian and Spanish, so again a good diverse group of nationalities.
At the welcome meeting I was really disappointed as in the blurb up front it says you can book an excursion to Frida Kahlo museum and this is now not offered so not a happy chappy on that one. But do you know what, I should have done my research on this more thoroughly as it gets booked up quickly and that is why the tour company cannot offer this excursion because you have also to book your exact time of entry. I think a bit of feedback will be given to the company just to let people know if they want to go to this museum they need to book it themselves a few weeks in advance to be able to obtain tickets.
They are also doing an excursion to Lucha Libra (the wrestling) which we did yesterday but I was waxing lyrical about this and now everyone wants to go because of me waxing lyrical, so they have a win win. If they enjoy it fantastic if they do not then it’s my fault - not thinking I should not have waxed lyrical about this and let people make up their own minds!!! Could be a BIG mistake by me on this one or on the positive I could be the groups best travel agent!
We all go for a meal and everyone seems really nice and well travelled so this will be fun. Afterwards 8 of us, young and older, went for a drink which helped to get to know fellow travellers a bit better. A number of us are off to Coyoacan and Xochimilco fiesta tomorrow. Coyoacan is another district of Mexico City and, would you believe it, where the Frida Kahlo museum is errrrr, and Xochimilico is a network of canals and it appears in the fiesta you are on boats and their is food and drink so let’s see what tomorrow brings.
Going back to the drinks post meal, in the bar what is one of the murals, only a Frida Kahlo work - I am going to be haunted.
