There is lots to love about San Jose del Cabo. If you find the area too quiet, you can always hop a bus to busy Cabo San Lucas and be there in about 20 minutes. We didn't take in golfing, fishing or tours, but there is plenty of that here if that's your thing.
CLEAN & PRISTINE - this is out third time to Mexico and this area is by far the cleanest and most pristine we have seen. I loved Cozumel last year and would also go back there but this place is just a cut above. Streets are clean and litter free, gardens manicured, zero unemployment, things here seem just a little better economically. It is common to see work crews out sweeping and raking public streets and areas. I can walk around by myself without worry at all. With that all being said, like anywhere you travel away from your home, it is recommended that ladies carry purses on straps across their body and men keep wallets in zipper or button pockets - common sense, no point in providing unnecessary opportunity to those who might have a lot less than you.
WEATHER - it rained last
night, I didn't actually see it but there was a puddle on our deck to prove it. Other than that, we were here for one month and we actually witnessed only three rain drops. It was sunny and hot, but not too hot, every single day. What more could we ask for on a tropical vacation? Awesome.
THE OCEAN - we wake up to watch the sunrise every morning over the Sea of Cortez and it is awe-inspiring. Orange, pink, purple, blue, I cannot put into words how amazing this is, especially since we are fortunate enough to witness this daily inspiration from the comfort of our own king size bed! The waves crashing on the shore, the whales playing in the bay, the boats coming and going and how good our skin feels after a day of swimming in the salt water that is cool without being too cold. Miles and miles of beautiful sandy clean beach. Truly amazing.
THE FOOD - you'll get sick if you eat here - WRONG! The restaurants here are safe to eat at, just use your common sense. Wash your hands every time you think of it, especially after touching menus
or money and before you put anything in your mouth with your hands. We ate at more restaurants here than many of the Canadian people who live here and we had no problems at all with our health. The restaurants here are fabulous - check out trip advisor to find the best of the best! (or read my other blogs to find out favorites.) In terms of grocery stores, there is Mega and Walmart here in San Jose, you can find Costco and Sams Club in Cabo - everything you need and more.
PUBLIC BUSES - what a treat, they are nothing fancy but cheap and safe. It takes a while to get the hang of it since there are no published routes or schedules. The Inter Baja goes along the Highway and you can take it all the way to Cabo San Lucas or along the Highway to Pescadore. The Urbanos go to El Centro along Zona Hotelera and around town. Renting a car is a good idea for part of your trip but you can only park in white zones downtown so don't be afreaid to take the bus instead. The driver's know some English, enough for
basic questions or others will help you out, don't be afraid to ask anyone waiting for a bus where you want to go. Taxis are also readily available, from El Centro to our condo, it cost $10. Make sure you confirm any costs with the driver before you jump in.
ARTS & CULTURE - immerse yourself in art from around the world or just get lost in the local authentic Mexican culture. The art district is gorgeous and quaint. They really have done a beautiful job with the area and galleries - this is not to be missed. Thursday evening is the day of the week the streets are closed to vehicles, the whole town comes out for Art Walk, we went twice - taking in as much as we could absorb.
After a month, we ask ourselves if this is our favorite place in Mexico and the answer is Yes. We weren't too crazy about Cabo San Lucas, too busy for us, but would recommend this area, San Jose del Cabo, for anyone looking for a great Meixcan vacation.
